I reckoned on my timings that my RS4 with standard box was some 0.3 to 0.4 seonds quicker on the 3rd gear 3k-8k rpm test so nearer 8 than 8.5 when I compared times done at 24 degrees and those done at -3 degrees. so say for argument sake a 20 degree difference producing a 0.3 second improvement on a 8.2 second time is a 4% gain in time on a standard set up.

Plus the improved mpg and importantly NOISE! :kissmyrings:

Interesting read, with some interesting results.

Really surprised you didn't see positive results from the shielding and wrapping!

There's got to be a better option that a home-made heat-shield... is the OEM shield built into the intake? Do GruppeM sell a custom one?

Should have an RS4 bought by the end of the week, and since wheels will wait until spring, intake and exhaust are top of the modding list.

It was purely for experimental purposes so looks was not top of the agenda.

There is no oem heat shield, the oem air box does that job.

... And no there is no gruppem heat shield. I spoke to Glen at Revolution about making a secondary attachment for their GruppeM to minimise radiant heat issues (not het soak).

Glenns

I've not seen the GruppeM in the flesh. Is the Revolution one exactly the same or did you modify it in any way? My Revolution one looks to have a longer intake then the GruppeM in Sonnys photos ie km pretty sure I couldn't really see the cone filter as much through the Revolution one.

Ilya, Sonny hasn't been on here for nearly a year.
I think Paul might still go racing with him though. Can't remember what's Paul's username is now, think it's PJC maybe, it's defo just 3 initials though. Or drop Sonny a PM as he'll get an email notification.
