when I had the mini cooper S I had to check it constantly due to the (bloody) runflat

what about you guys? I think it's good to check at least once a month isn't it?

Once a month minimum is good imo

I norm check mine once a week along with other weekly checks (fluids etc).

But I guess it all comes down to if you have the time or not to do it weekly.

Once a week usually, once a fortnight at most. These cars are very sensitive to tyre pressures.

It might sound stupid, but i only ever check mine if i had a tyre pressure waring in the dashboard, i rely on the tyre pressure sensors
But maybe i shouldnt ?

would be interested to know what your weekly routine is in detail, as I would like to have one myself

Once a month, or a few days before a long journey.

On this subject, what's the best gauge to test tyre pressures?

I have an old 'ish Michelin digital tyre inflator which is supposed to infate to a certain PSI and then cut off, but when I use this and measure the PSI with a separate Michelin gauge I get a different reading, so I use the inflator and set it to 50 PSI and then just keep disconnecting it and testing with the hand held gauge.

I test when tyres are cold but I seem to get different readings a lot of the time, I tested them last night and they were 35.5 rear, 38.5 fronts, tested again this morning and they're 35 rear and 37.5 front.

Does a change in outside air temperature have an effect on this?

How acurate do the readings need to be?

Thanks

I use what sounds like the same Michelin digital tyre inflator that Daz mentions, but mine agrees with an old-style mechanical gauge.

Here's a question for someone cleverer than me: if a tyre is inflated and set to 38psi before it's put onto the car, will the pressure still be 38psi when it's on the axle and taking the weight of the car?

(semi-relevant to the thread, since I got my wheels refurbed today and asked them to do 38 front / 35 back and I'm wondering whether to check them myself)

I use this http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165703

It has a metal end attachment, however it has a screw cap, I prefare the type that have the push and hold nozzles. The good thing about this product is it has metal internals inside the nozzle. I used to have a plastic one before that have ended up being chewed by the valve after only a couple of months of usage (more at track days).

As for the Tyre pressure gauge, a few of us on here use this. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Michelin-Digita ... B000V5F0XQ

I have had so many cheap pumps and gauges that have not lasted, it pays to buy a good one, "buy cheap by twice" :dung:

LOL ok, well I just check tyre pressures, condition of tyres (looking for any abnormal wear, bulges or cuts) All fluids and that the lights are all working and clean. Prior to any track days or long journeys I take this into another level.

There are many schools of thought on a vehicle daily/weekly and monthly check. Most Haynes manuals did have them in them as a basic guide.

When I was in the Army we used to call it a vehicle first and last parade, a weekly vehicle check had to be carried out every time you open and closed the vehicle work ticket. We use something very similar in out work client vehicles, where the weekly check must be conducted every morning and evening. The check list is like 2 pages long.

The Police use something smiler, the acronym POWDER is used as a reminder. Petrol -Oil -Water -Damage -Electronics -Rubber (Tyres and window blades).

From there you can go into static and moving tests (breaks), and then finally conducting the cock pit drill SSSMM (seat-seat belt-steering wheel-mirrors maneuver). Again many schools of thought on this, and slightly going off topic

I use one of these - about once a month, or whenever going on a long (or fast!) trip...

Comes in a case (like sunglasses) and very easy to use
