Hi guys.new to the rs4 game and have a few questions :D

Post by dickytrickster » Wed Feb 23, 2011 10:40 pm

Hi guys,i bought my first rs4 on the 24th of december. As i managed to convince the other half that with our first child on the way the car was a good idea! And a great christmas present to me!Have loved every minute of owning the car,but have a few questions!!

The car has the dvd based sat nav with ipod doc in the glove box.when you select cd on the display it comes up with changer and says all 6 are empty with the sat disc in 7.carnt eject the sat disc as it is locked(other half took the car to audi today and they said they had unlocked it but still carnt eject it!?)can the head unit take 6 discs? or is there a changer somewhere in the car?

I also have the TPMS light on the dash on! this came on when i change 1 of the rear wheel because it had a stone chip,so swaped it for the spare alloy that came with the car.i understand there are sensors but where are these located? and could changeing the wheel have caused this?

Sorry to sound thick but thought i would ask the guys in the know!

Thanks for any help
Rich

Hi and welcome.
The CD changer if anywhere will be in the glovebox, top right. All sounds a bit odd, one for Petrol Dave..

As for TPMS, try running the Wheel Change procedure using the trip computer, press SET on the steering wheel and select it from the menu.
This will then tell the TPMS brain to forget the missing sensor that was on the other wheel and to communicate with the new one.
The sensors are in the wheel, attached to the valve.
Good luck.

1) The way the Sat nav talks to Ipods is rubbish, it does not show track names it just shows track numbers (as I understand it) further each Disc means something equalling some ipod functionality, like Disc 6 is your pre saved play lists or something

2) If you don't already have TV there are add on boxes you can buy that bring proper ipod functionality but they plug in where the TV would have gone

I may be wrong but I think you can either have the iPod dock or the CD changer as both are connected to the same input in the back of the headunit.

When you select CD (with iPod connected) CD 6 should be the entire playlist on your iPod (A-Z)
CD 1 - 5 is the first 5 playlists on the iPod.

If you want to play a particular album (or playlist outwith 1-6), remove iPod, select the playlist or album, click play, reconnect the iPod to glovebox dock and it'll play from where you currently are.
It'll also continue to play from there each time you start your car up but if you've been parked up for a couple of days, it'll revert back to A-Z.

The car has the dvd based sat nav
Do you have the SD card slots behind the nav screen?

Much better than the iPod dock IMHO as it displays full track details and not just track number.

As Pie and shagga stated. When you select factory fitted options you can either have the cd changer or the ipod dock - not both. The changer is in the glove box (top right) and the sat nav is usually in the head unit when you press the screen to drop down on the RNS-E unit. The screen though with the ipod only shows discs 1-6 and these are playlists.

Not the best system i know and a bit weird to follow. The only issue with the sd card slots is they wont play sdhc only sd so you are limited to capacity, but at least you get track listings. I do believe though that you can replace the head unit with a more up to date rnse system that can play upto 32g sdhc cards.

hope this helps

The iPod is the "CD changer".

It's a totally cr*p iPod interface that Audi provide, which reduces the iPod to a virtual 6 CD changer.

I still get 12 or so albums to an SD card. Just a shame they're so small you can't label them..

I wouldn't bother with the cd changer or the ipod - just fill up a few SD cards and job done! Plus no clutter in the car and nothing for thieves to nick.

Move with the times, ha ha!!

Remember the tracks need to be in MP3 format on the SD cards. Also, if your importing from iTunes they generally are NOT MP3. You need to go into options - preferences - cd import options (I think) and change that to MP3 from AAC. I had to convert my entire iTunes library over to MP3 which was a PITA!

And they MUST be SD cards and NOT SDHC cards.

Any card up to 2GB will be SD, any card 8GB or over will be SDHC - the confusion is with 4GB ones which can be either SD or SDHC.
