Coil pack crisis

Post by yorkie » Mon Feb 21, 2011 3:14 pm

Took car for an MOT today at the dealers and was informed that Audi have a recall for coil packs. Couldn't do mine today as they only had 5 left but they are replacing loads apparently all foc.

Mar 07. I suspect they will only replace the remaining 5 on yours for free as the new ones are probably ok.

I was told that it is a "whenever you have the car in for work" job so probably not exactly a recall and was only announced last Friday. From what I gathered it is pretty much across the board so there are going to be lots of coil packs replaced.

Just booked mine in; approx 1hrs work apparently.

Just to add I was told it's not a recall as such and can be timed in conjunction with the next service. I've just had a service so thought it prudent to get it done now instead of waiting a year.

Can one of you guys who have had it done share the 'product code' once you get the invoice back?
Just for referenec as mine has just had MOT and service and could be a while before I need it back in for anything.

Just booked mine in for Wednesday. I was told the car also had three other recalls outstanding, dating back to June 2008? As I have only bought the car two months ago from a main dealer, should this not have been picked up?

Just heard from my local dealer - apparently its a workshop action rather than a recall:

Technical background
It is possible that an ignition coil can fail to function, in which case the emissions warning lamp will light up, as designed. In some cases, the customer may also notice that the engine does not pull smoothly.

Remedy
The ignition coils must be checked on all affected vehicles and replaced if necessary.

Customer notification
Please notify customers who have taken delivery of one of the affected vehicles when the vehicles are next in the workshop.
Please ensure that all affected vehicles are checked and repaired during the next service visit. Make a note of the required campaign on the workshop order before it is signed by the customer.
If it is omitted to perform the work required for the campaign during a workshop visit, notify the customer about the campaign immediately.
You should also pass on this information to your new and used car sales departments so that the vehicles affected are checked and, if necessary, repaired immediately.

Its not just RS4s its most petrol engine Audis, the workshop needs to check S/N and replace the ones that are incorrect.

According to a friend who works as a tech, just asked him.
