Options Advice

I am stepping up my search for an RS4 and would be greatful for a wee bit of advice from some owners.

I realise that these cars have a vast array of options available when originally ordered but which ones would you recommend having. I am looking for opinions of the options that get used on a day to day basis.

I would prefer my forthcoming car to have the buckets, FBSW and sat nav, but not too sure what else to lookout for.

Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance guys.

Bluetooth's handy, adaptive xenons are great if you do a lot of night country lane driving, useless otherwise!

Most stuff is personal preference, it's nice to be fully loaded with a fridge, tv, etc etc...........but you've got the main ones there for resale desirability.

to be honest buying an RS4 is fairly easy in terms of spec as there is not a "vast array" of options, or at least meaningful ones, and the RS4 came with a lot as std. (Trying buying a Porsche!)

Once you have chosen the colour, whether you want optics and which seats all you need to add is satnav, mine also has:

Tech pack is DVD satnav (covers all of Europe) + adaptive lights + CD changer in glovebox

Auto dimming mirror / rain & light sensors £200
Black optics pack £300
(black chrome finish to front grille, window surrounds, rear boot lip and exhaust pipes - makes the car look much meaner)

Sports suspension plus £500

I use the sunroof and TV, I would now not buy a car without SS+ or optics pack, the dimming mirrors and light/rains sensors are good and a no-brainer when speccing new as so cheap. Adaptive lights work surprisingly well. Things like rear blinds, rear heated seats, coolbox I have no need of, I really like the floor mats but only because I got them thrown in free, rear airbags I hope will prove to be a waste of money but with my daughter in the bag it is nice to know they are there.

But to conclude, once you have correctly specced the FBSW and buckets the only must have is satnav

This is the spec list of my car, the full list was supplied by Audi from their computer, so if they got it wrong its not my fault!

Sports Suspension +
Auto opening boot lid
Rear side airbags
Front armrest
6 CD auto changer in glovebox
Adaptive lights
GSM phone prep on dash
DVD Sat Nav
Black Optics Pack
Heated front and rear seats
Auto Dimming rearview mirror
Daylight running lights and coming home function

What would I give up? rear side airbags, 6CD changer in glovebox and rear heated seats, otherwise everything else I use and appreciate (GSM phone prep in dash looks pants but does give you bluetooth which obviously is essential).

I dont have TV, would never ever use it due to the way I use my car

Nav is essential but then cars without are cheaper so eay to retrofit especially if they have a Symphony head unit - don't ignore a good car without it.

Bluetooth is easy retrofit to cars with Nav - I didn't bother as mine is a weekend toy, calls can wait

Buckets are most desirable but then some people don't want them and they age badly

Sport suspension from what I have read ruins the standard cars excellent combination of ride and handling

Ceramics are cool but unnecessary off the track

Adaptive lights are interesting technology but they go wrong according to a recent MRC post

Do we really need autolights?

DRLs are standard but self dip rvm is bundled with auto lights.

There is no excuse for no flat bottom steering wheel though!

The one I viewed yesterday had it all yet I had to wonder how much extra weight it was carrying with TV gubbings, sunroof, fridge, auto bootlid.

I genuinely do not miss anything and mine is basic with just retrofit Nav, front armrest and 6CD

I do like my toys when I use my car as a daily driver though (RS4 doesn't have enough)

I do have to say that I disagree about sports suspension ruining the ride of the car - its obviously stiffer and has a bigger rear ARB but I was just driving along yesterday thinking to myself how well the car rides with DRC and SS+ - but I also say suspension is subjective - I drove a RS6+ with KW suspension and immediately it was noticeable that it was harder than my car.

optics really does narrow the choice down and you need to see a few to find a good one but I agree if you want them and are prepared to look then by all means hold out

Would love a sunroof and mods.

SS+ which I love and only find it harsh on the real bad roads

In summary the only thing I would add is a sunroof.

Optics were originally high on my list of must haves but the ones that had optics at the time also came with the wrong combo of other options i.e. Aluminium inlays, worn bolsters, high mileage, 2006 (Egg yolk indicators), not Sprint blue etc.

In the end I settled for a non-optic model as it ticked all the other boxes.

options are a combination of what you want for personal use and what you think will aid a future resale value.

Satnav and OEM Bluetooth for me are essential as mine is a daily driver used for work and visiting clients.
