Pics of my carbon build up!

Post by Steve_C » Wed Feb 16, 2011 11:28 pm

Thanks to MRC who de-coked my car in Dec. Finally got round to posting the pics. Doug said it was one of the worst he'd seen which probably explained why power was down at 358PS at the time.

Shocking, what did the power go up to afterwards?

Doug reckoned the cleaning / porting would take it to 415ish. However, I also has a new air filter and remap done so end result was 434.

What's the history Steve?
Mileage, distance between services, type of use etc?
Any idea how long it'll stay clean?

Previous owner did 20k miles pa for 3 yrs. Mostly sitting at 3500rpm on the motorway. Serviced by Audi on long life approx every 12 months.

I'll do my best to keep the carbon at bay by spinning it up to 8k every so often!

I had mine cleaned and was pretty similar, produced 366ps with Milltek and no cats before. Then got 442.2 after cleaning and porting etc. Then did about 2.5k miles and went back for cold air feed, Milltek no cat pipes and further mapping and got 464.6. So don't think I've built up any significant deposits in that time. Hopefully the extra air flow helps blast out the crap.

+1

You say ported, do you mean you had the inlet manifold ported and tumble flaps remove?

How much are you looking at for the de-cokeing to be done?

Give Doug a call at MRC for a quote. Main cost was 11 hrs of labour.

jumping on this.
would you consider buying an RS4 that never had decoke done? just spoke to MRC and it's not exactly cheap. they say they can do a health check and check the values on the dyno, and by that get a rough idea as to whether the car needs cleaning or not.
what's the good PS range a 40K miles RS4 needs to have before worrying about decoke? at least 400?

I bought mine without any real concerns / thoughts about carbon build up other than what I had read about on here.
Any issues wouldn't be restricted to my particular car, this is common across the entire range so unfortunately its either take it and live with it or leave it.
