Avant tailgate ~ opening

Ok, so may seem a dumb question:
Is the only way to open the boot, with the keyfob remote?

It's really quite annoying when I have the key in the ignition and decide I want to go to the boot. Remote boot key wont work until I've removed from ignition.

I thought there would have been a dash button somewhere to unlock the boot.... there isn't ?!?!

Have I missed something obvious ?

It's not auto opening like on the sallon but if you continuously hold the middle key on the fob for 3-5 seconds it will unlock it. Someone did look at uprated the gas struts on the Avant boot but you would need to be Mariusz Pudzainowski to try and shut it!

Cheers P_G but even holding the middle button it doesn't open...... Unless the key is removed from ignition... then it works !

Probably done that way incase it is knocked when driving and you accidentally open the tailgate whilst moving. Great for drive by shooting but maybe not handy otherwise!

Sorry to ask the obvious but can you not just use the normal boot handle to open the boot?

No. IIRC you would have to remember to unlock the boot "before" putting the key into ignition. Even then it seems a bit bonkers.

Even if the keys are in the ignition you can ensure that all doors are unlocked using the button on the drivers door, you can then open the boot using the button on the boot handle.

Hmm. Guess that makes sense... I'll give it a whirl. Cheers.

That always works for me. The button on my door opens the tailgate and every door but the passengers which opens fine when I press the key fob twice.. Weird!

For my A3, and IIRC, you can re-program via vagcom so only one press on the keyfob unlocks all doors. No reason to think this wouldn't be the same for the RS4.

The Japanese market got a internal boot release button as well as a fuel flap release button for all models, stupid how it was not a option in the West.

Yep, the RS4 (and S4 and A4) an also be programmed for 1 or 2 presses to open all doors. I like the 2 presses as more often than not there's only me in the car.

+1, and I don't mind 2 presses on the odd occasion when I have company.

EXACTLY !! If they can fit them for the Jap market why not offer them as an option for all other markets ???
Wonder what other useful options are fitted to other worldwide markets as "standard" that we don't even know about !!
