Software version numbers clarification

Are there two different software version numbers that are relevant to the RS4?

Is there an ECU map version number (latest being SW0090, I believe) and a separate nav software version (latest being SW0650, I believe)?

Yes,
My car (ECU) is running SW0090 but the Nav shows SW0050.

Nav and ECU are different, there not the same thing.

When I last counted it the "average" B7 RS4 has 38 different software based electronic modules - all of them having different software versions.

I very much doubt that your sat nav has SW version 0050 - that was released in 2004 and was up to version 0360 before the first B7 RS4 came off the production line.

I think it probably says 0650 not 0050...

Dave, may I beg for your forgiveness, as I was slightly incorrect in my Nav software number. It is not 0050, as you know (you are always right) but in fact it was 0550.

I am also very sorry for not knowing that there are 38 different electronic modules.... however.... Wolfgang asked....

"Is there an ECU map version number (latest being SW0090, I believe) and a separate nav software version (latest being SW0650, I believe)?"

... to which I answered Yes.... which, on a very simple level is correct.

Which means you're using a very old map on your sat nav, 2007 I think?

The 2011 maps are just becoming available in Europe, which means they should appear in the UK in about February.

Just found this thread and wondered about the software versions, if you discover you have the old one, can you just go in to Audi and ask them to change it? Is it something they automatically do (or should do!) at the service, and is it chargeable?

Going up as far as 0080 should be done automatically when serviced.

0090 is on request only, and only if you say the right things (cold start is really rough and driving for the first few miles is lumpy too).

Cool thanks Dave, it actually is a little lumpy when its cold so I'll pop in and see what they say. How long does it take them to do change the SW over? Guess I better check I dont have the newer version first or I'll look even more stupid! :P

Not had it done separately, only as part of a service, so I don't know how long it takes to download it to the car. Remember the RS4 has 2 engine ECUs that both need updating.

It takes around 30 minutes. I had my update to SW0090 earlier this week.
