Would the cold trigger this?

Yes, if the pressures have decreased by around 4 psi compared to the reference pressures against which the tpms was initialised. You may need to set the correct pressures and then record these as the reference pressures.

A rough rule of thumb I've found to be about right is 5.5 degrees c for 1 psi change.
So i fyou set them in the summer at around 20c then it's very likely the 0c conditions now will cause the required drop even before you get onto natural loss through time.

I have this problem every winter. The Audi shop have not yet managed to fault find. Additionally, I can time when the warning comes up - usually at 10-12mins after starting the journey. Sometimes the warning corrects itself and sometimes not. I have learned to live with it and wait until the summer. I do think there's a winter / temperature connection but all the pressures are still fine and resetting the computer (to new tyres fitted) makes no difference.

If anyone else has any ideas, I'd like to hear them.

I got the TPMS flat tyre wanring yesterday and there was a small self-tapping screw in one of my tyres. Repaired by my local Kwik Fit garage. The system definitely works well in my (limited) experience.

Might be an idea to check the coding with VAG-COM (Mod 65) - it's a long shot, but you can adjust the sensitivity and a previous owner might have played with it?

VAG COM will also pin point which sensor is causing the fault
