Milltek system - which one?

Post by Revolution » Sat Sep 11, 2010 3:21 pm

Just out of curiosity, what is the most popular exhaust that members have gone for.

We're going to stick a few onto our shelves with our next Milltek stock order and didnt want to get stuck with any slow sellers.

Res or non Res - ex valves

Res or non Res - with valves

100 cell or 200 cell cats

Black or Polished trims
Presuming the oval trims will be the most popular

Any help would be most appreciated - my choice would be non-res & valved but not heard them all side by side to compare.

Cheers
Glenn

Depends on the budget of the buyer.

Im running a full system (200cell cats, non-res with Valves).

A few on here have gone for the non-res, non-valve variant

Mmmm...intresting Glenn??? Let me know what you go for as i,m in Teeside..may have to pop up and take a look. I see you do 0% finance as well... :jump_clap:

I,d personally go for NON RES WITH VALVES POLISHED OVAL TIPS...as much to OEM as i could.

I,d like to keep the valves as i dont like messing with "blocking the vacum pipes with screws" etc etc.

I would think non res valved would be the best seller, a distinct different from standard system whereas res valved is too similar.

You're unlikely to have many takers for resonated - virtually everyone goes for non-res. Similarly, virtually everyone would like valved, but like aka_dk says, not many people can justify the extra cost from new. I've never seen anyone with Milltek quads - just a few Tubi ones. I'd stick with ovals. Finally, I would have said demand would have been about 80% polished, but with so many posts about retrofitting optics at the moment, I'd say it's now more like 60% polished

My stock guess (in order) would be -

1.) Non Res Valved Polished Oval
2.) Non Res Non-Valved Black Oval
3.) Non Res Non-Valved Polished Oval
4.) Non Res Valved Black Oval

Do Milltek supply the resonated centre section by itself? If so, that would be your best bet...

Not sure about cats. The majority of people just go cat back, so it might not merit holding them in stock. It's a much bigger decision (including the 100 / 200c cell dilemma) so I imagine people are quite happy to wait on stock

As for me, I've just bought a used non res, non valved and MRC are doing the honours at the end of the month - can't wait!

im the same as the others - non res valved.

my first choice was with black tips - but due to the difference in cost decided to go with polished tips instead.

I'm looking at non-res valved, oval, probably polished tips but would look at black.
Peer pressure eh!

Be good to get a side by side comparison of the standard and various versions.
Be interesting to get a DB meter both inside and outside just to have some numbers to figure against. I'd like the non res sound but only when sport activated. For cruising on the motorway I don't want it to intrusive.

Great feedback guys, thanks for that - anyone local to Geordie land got a non-res non valved and res valved and we can whip out out db meter and measure them to compare?
I think non-res no valved would be awesome but maybe tiresome over long journeys.

Is their much gains to be had with the hi-flow cats..5-10hp?

Plus noticed a few people have decatted and pre-catted - worth it on a n/a car?

The non-res, non-valved is only "annoyingly" loud around 1700 - 2200-ish RPM where there is a bit of a drone. Anything higher up the range and I don't really notice it.
Long journeys (if mostly motorway miles) wouldn't be a huge issue, long journeys if constantly gridlocked may get a bit tiresome.

My other toy is a bike, so for me its all about loud exhausts!

Worth taking a db reading like track day organisers do.
Usually 45 degree from exhaust at 1 meter whilst at 75% max rpm.

I've got a good db meter so will take a reading of stock. Anyboday in the Oxford area want to get a comparison reading then let me know.

I have a full Milltek decat (mated to a standard system at present) on mine. I had it rr'd on the same day before and after installation of the decat. From memory it was 15hp at the wheels gained. (with the usual rr caveats being applied)
