New owner

Hi, quick intro, I'm a new owner and should be picking up my car in the next few days.

It has the GSM dash phone cradle - question would be, is it possible to hook up an iPhone to that and specifically the iPod function of the iPhone. Is there any way to control the iPod via the stereo/sat nav?

I'm sure I will have many more questions but really looking forward to ownership :)

Cheers

Welcome Bradders. Ca't answer your quer but I'm sure soeone will be along to answer. You could remove the cradle and leave your i-Phone in the centre armrest connetced via bluetooth if you have the module in your car. Have a search for bluetooth devices and see if an Audi one comes up.

The Audi iPod interface reduces the ipod to a virtual 6 CD changer and you don't get album or track names on the RNS-E. Using a Dension iPod interface you can get track names on the DIS, but not on the RNS-E.

To use the iPod function of the iPhone along with the iPhone function the b est way is to connect the iPhone via Bluetooth for the phone functions, and then to cable connect for the iPod functions.

If you want to control the iPod functions and have tracknames on the RNS-E screen then you should look at a Kufatec IMA Plus plus Alpine KCE-425 combination, and getting the VIM hack doen so that the screen doesn't blank when you go faster than 5mph.

i have just had the alpine 425 put in by hazy dayz , good job done, still got my cd player , charges my iphone and i have had the wire in the center console so i can get to my phone when i need to rather than in the glove box, but if you use a ipod the gove box is fine

I'd be happy with being able to just change tracks on the iPod, just not by using the iPod itself - means I have to take my eyes of the road too much for my liking...

is the cable connect method just a Aux in type thing?

cheers

You can do both - dedicated iPod connector which goes into the SatNav via the CDC connection allowing you to use the HU controls to select playlists (as I understand very limited functionality) or I think the Dension allows to keep the CDC + a bit more functions.

You can also add an aux-in to the RNS-E which needs to be enabled in the SW too which I assume you control from the attached device rather than the RNS-E.

Been enjoying my car - really pleased so far, looks superb and sounds excellent...

Some more q's - I can't see a aux in connection for the nave/stereo - is there not one?

I don't think I have Bluetooth, was that an option?

Cheers!

Glad to hear you're having fun

Bluetooth was a cost option, but can quite easily be retrofitted. There's no aux in for the RNS-E, but again there are workarounds that normally involve a dual feed into the CD channel.

If you're anywhere near Manchester then try craigyb at www.tclsatnav.com - otherwise I suggest you post questions in the Electrical forum as you'll get more people viewing

Thanks Dom, I'm in the south-east, not far from Camberly Audi actually but have always heard good things about craigyb

Yes there is, as MB2 has already mentioned.

Any RNS-E running the latest SW version (0650 in the EU/ZA/AUS/AGCC and 0260 in the US) can be coded to enable an audio only Aux In. You need to add a socket (with a 3.5mm jack) and the wiring. A complete kit is available from Kufatec.

This was never factory fitted to the B7 A4/S4/RS4 but several people have fitted to socket in the centre console between the Start button and the centre armrest.

Dave - It's a hardware question (I can't see a aux in connection for the nav/stereo) and that's why I said there isn't one

As I said, there are workarounds, and the Kufatec sounds more straightforward than my old Dension set-up
