PD

Just as I thought, I mentioned the rough idle at startup, and the kangaroo style driving from cold - sounds like i need to call them back!

Thanks for confirming.

55 quid as its meant to be a half hour job - took 3 hours though but still cost 55 quid (which was nice).

My car was delivered in July 2006 so it was 3 years 11 months old.

I took out the extended Audi warranty in July 2009, but I wasn't asked if it had extended warranty by Portsmouth Audi - thay also did several service campaigns FOC as well as this SW upgrade and the DRC replacement all FOC.

I haven't taken the extended Audi warranty this year as it's gone up by 50%, which IMHO is extortionate.

I was told it wasn't a warranty item or a recall but my dealer stood the cost so can't complain

SW0080 was a service campaign IIRC that was automatically done/offered on all RS4s.

SW0090 is an "on request only" item and will only be done if the customer complains of smoky cold starts and rough running after cold starts.

AFAIK all RS4 SW has to be downloaded directlyfrom Audi AG (maybe even quattro gmbH) servers onto the car.

I'm not sure that is totally right Dave...

I think it is also attached to particular chassis numbers.

In order to get "around" this, owners who wanted SW0090 resorted to complaining about the same symptoms as those "affected" cars, and it then became a kind of "request" item done by particular owner-friendly dealers.

For instance, I was initially knocked back for the exact reason above, and subsequently had to get it done elsewhere...

Excuse my naivety, but what's SW0800,SW0900? is it some engine management firmware? and how do I tell what mine is on? and come to that.. which is better?
sorry for asking so many questions, just on a steep learning curve having jumped straight into an RS4 as my first Audi
Thanks in advance
