Thought this might be helpful for new folks getting their hands on an RS4 with the MFSW or SDS function on the factory cradle......and also not so new folks like me who had no idea there were 150 different speech commands available!

Hope this video helps 8)

Awesome stuff, is this possible to retrofit on a FBSW?

Yes & No - You need something called a "can-gate" which unfortunatley the person has stopped making, a button fitted to the dash & then some re-jigging on the mic leads so route through the RNS-E instead of just to it, or a phone cradle I guess.

I think it will work without the can-gate but only if you boot the RNS-E into enng mode so not really a very practical solution, I gave up when found couldn't get a can-gate anymore.

How can I tell if my RS4 has this capability. I have the phone cradle and the bluetooth works with my cell. I can use voice commands with the names and numbers I have stored but I am not sure if it can understand all the commands on the video. How do I find out?

I've got the flat btm multi func. steering wheel, but only have voice command for the phone, so commands like radio etc dont work. Should they be working with this wheel or do i need to update something?

It is a software hack of the Nav unit for full SDS to work. The requirements are as follows....

1. A multi function steering wheel with the voice control button
2. A hacked RNS-E Nav unit
3. A rewire of the mic from the roof to go via the RNS-E mic in and mic out pins.
4. Turn off the coding for SDS on the phone to allow the RNS-E SDS to take over.

If you don't have a MFSW and only have the sport FBSW then you would need a cangate device and button to perfom the same function is the MFSW.

What's the ballpark price to retrofit SDS / CANgate including dash mounted button Craig?

PG - I don't think it can be done anymore due to lack of CAngate availiability Craigyb - I would be interested in this service too if this changed !

I thought there was a co. in Romania who did reconditioned RNS-E units who were still fabricating CANgates?

I have one cangate available, I wasn't aware of any one making them. Do you have any information on the company?

I'll see if I can find the web link again. It was one of the sellers on E-bay but haven't had a look for ages.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but I have recently started looking for an RS4 and one of the things I would like to get if I can is full SDS control of the RNS-E. I know SDS can be retrofitted but was it available as an option from new? I don't remember seeing it listed in any of the adverts I have been looking at so I'm assuning it wasn't available but I would be grateful if one of the knowledgeable chaps on here could confirm if that's the case.

Thanks in advance.
