So after a grand total of 3 weeks ownership my RS4 B7 has started to bellow blue smoke.Tickover and reving it smokes like hell.

The car has only covered 19,850 miles and was serviced last week.It is booked in at audi first thing tomorrow.Does anyone have an idea what it might be?would it be covered on warranty?and will i be ok to drive it to audi which is 20ish miles away.

are you checking the oil level? is is changing?

blue smoke (oil) is bad...I don't think I would drive it...

I have to admit after starting my car up ten times or so to build the vacuum back up while I was testing the power valve I saw some blue smoke when i left it to idle after I'd finished

If it's been doing it ever since the service I'd plump for an oil overfill.
Otherwise,could be a sticky piston ring or something.

As it's still under warranty, should be nothing to worry about regardless of what it is as I'm sure it'll be covered! But as Arthur says I'd be cautious of driving it for fear of making the problem worse (and the fix more expensive!). But if the dealer has said it's OK to drive it in, then I guess just do it!

Overfill, sticky relief valve, damaged breather hose etc, etc. As it was serviced around the time it started, if is very likely to be related. Don;t worry, warranty should cover it...

Well it got there ok and didnt smoke when i arrived,no overheating etc but for some strange reason the heater was furness hot on 20 degrees then cooled at 18 but still had a hint of warn air coming through.Also some thing i noticed yesterday and today,it didnt run on the choke on cold start.
There's gremlins in the system.

If the weather is warm and the "cold start" occurs when the coolant temp is basically the same a warm ambient temp of around 30C (I don't know the exact temp this occurs), the warm-up routine when the engine idle is 1500 RPM for a short while doesn't happen. It doesn't have to when the engine is that warm - even though it is a cold start. What was the approximate ambient when you started the car?

Concerning the smoke...what is the oil level at? And what is the oil temp during your normal driving?

perhaps it was overfilled and you burned it off

I got the car back and they said for an RS its normal for them to smoke on cold start up,as long as it doesnt smoke when warm it will be ok.does this happen to anyone else?

im not really buying that reason,especially when i started it this morning and all was well.i think they have made a blunder somewhere when it was serviced and they fixed it on the quiet.

Mine occasionally has a bit of blue smoke when I fire it up but from your desciption you were gettiing a lot, which doesn't sound right to me.
I reckon your suspicions regarding the service are correct!

Do you park on a hill? I'm not joking here. I've noticed a fair bit of smoke a couple of times after being parked overnight on a steep slope

No its parked in the garage or on the drive which is flat.Il keep an eye on it and make sure it doesnt persist.

With SW 0080 I used to get smoke (black rather than blue) from the exhaust for maybe 30 seconds after start-up (I park on a flat drive) because of the over-rich cold start mixture that 0080 causes.

If your oil level is OK (not over filled), then maybe this is the cause of your cold start smoke?

BTW mine doesn't do it now after I had the engine ECU SW upgraded to 0090.

STURS4, it would have been nice if you'd told us what the oil level was as this is key to diagnosis and simple to do

mine hasn't been at the dealer for >1.5 years so I'll have the old stuff correct? would it be 070 or 080?
