Approaching the need for new tyres. Recommendations please
I realise I am walking into a huge arena of personal preference here but would really like your opinions of what tyres to buy.
Doing a search seems to swing between Goodyear Eagles and Vredestein Sassantas. I had the latter on my 350z but didn't like the comb-over appearance.
Yes I realise that's a daft way of dismissing a tyre so please don't flame me.
Looks like a bill for between £800 to £1000 on the way.
Your collective advise would be appreciated.

Combovers (lol) are cheaper than your quote on www.camskill.co.uk if that helps the decision at all

Eagle F1 Asymmetrics with out a doubt. mine have been excellent so far, Iv had the same set now on 2 major track days and have not let me down.

had vreds on my RS 6 and couldnt fault them, and at £600 a set, thats what I'll be going for when the time comes!
I can personally recommend Eagle F1 assymetrics, but buy them from a reputable dealer as I had one from a cheap discounter that was duff and just couldn't be balanced properley (can they can be sourced from the "wrong" country?).
Very quiet and comfortable, suberb in the wet and the dry and good handling feel. Just don't run them right down to the minimum wear line as they go off quite dramatically in my experiece.
Whatever you do don't buy Avons - grip is okay but absolutely no steering feel whatsoever and they redefine the word vague!

is it vreds that make more road noise compared to the ps2, eagle f1s, and pzeros??

Having used both on the RS4, previously F1's and currently Sessanta's they have their pluses and minuses. I have run both on 275 30 R19 96Y XL
F1's Pro's:
Ultimate Dry Grip,
Less road rolling noise
Excellent wet traction longevity (19k miles)
Cons:
Sluggish and splashy when cold,
Price £680 for 4 plus fitting (mytyres)
Sessanta' Pro's
Dry grip nearly as good as F1's but scrub a little when pushing on in corners, could do 75 round a particular large roundabout but perhaps only 70 with Sessanta when traction begins to break and drift occurs.
Wet grip just as good,
Aquaplaning resitance better
Snow performence far better than F1's
Longevity currently at 15k miles and about 3-3.5 mm left
Price £560 for 4 plus fitting (Camskill)
Cons:
Hard to initially balance,
limit dry grip not as good,
Take longer to scrub in,
More road noise then F1's but not significantly so
Tough choice and I'm not sure which I would go for again. If Goodyear F1 GSD3's were available I would have them but otherwise not sure.

They were replaced at the high performance tyre end of Goodyear's spectrum by Assymetrics but for me I'm not convinced they are actually better. But then I never used them on the RS, only on my S3 and S4 which didn't have the handling capability of the RS so perhaps GS3 performance is a bit misleading

I thought the same but if you look on goodyears web site there still being advertised talked to a dealer at tyre shopper the assured me they could get them as they still make and sell them in europe but not the UK so ordered a set and would get them a week later great as i couldn't fault these on my B5 RS4 got a call the following week only to be told that the would need 4 more weeks for delivery unfortantly i could'nt wait that long so I put Sasstanta's on cant turly say there any noisyer than the F1's but didn't put them on straight after my F1's had winter tyres on only done a few hundred miles so far so good.
the only issue i had was that a lot of fitters now will not fit tyres not sold by them. I used a fitter in Aberdeen Laws tyres as they checked the aliginment when i put on my winters. Got the Sasstanta's on got out the road on to a duler and soon as i hit 70 very violent shake on the steering wheel so back to the fitters on checking the wheel myself they had tried to balance them using center weights only Doh! must have been the YTS trainee on the job they re did the balance and all fine now so just a warning to you all make sure they balance both inner and outer sides of the alloy

I know there a lot of sites that advertise GSD3 in the right size but when you go to actually order them they never have any stock. TBH I have the same with tyre fitters here, however there is one place that I ask them how much they can provide them for and then quote them the internet price and they fit and charge me a slight premium over what they would charge if they supplied should they not be able to matchor get close to the internet price.
