Can you help me out?

Post by refurb » Mon Mar 15, 2010 11:36 am

After a period of 997 ownership I fancy an Rs4. Found a nice car in the dealer network with low miles though its some distance from me. I drove one at Crawley at the weekend and thought it an impressive bit of kit-it will be nice to take my daughter in the car with me for a change! Few questions-

What is/was the technology pack? Did it include the flat bottomed wheel?

Did any Rs4 come with DRL's via the factory?

Any issues I should be wary of-I will likely be buying via a main dealer which should afford a reasonable warranty.

Many thanks

Tech pack - adaptive lights, sat nav and 6CD changed (maybe an option was an iPod connection?). FBSW is standard.

DRLs - there's a DRL switch to the right of the steering wheel, near the ignition. Either "on" or "off". but the RS4 DRLs aren't LEDs.

Issues - dynamic ride control, full service history, make sure all recalls/campaigns/software updates carried out, make sure TMC works on the sat nav, make sure the "cold start" software update has been done, check side bolsters for wear if you have the buckets, check that rear heaters work if fitted, some cars leak water through (I think) their tail lights.

Is it a saloon or an avant?

If you're buying from Audi, you'll pretty much be bulletproof as the car should come with 12 months warranty.
All recalls / campaigns should be up to date prior to you taking delivery but you can ask them for a printout of the cars history - assuming all work has been done within the Audi network.

DRC - ongoing hit or miss on this one. Some cars affected but not all. The work history printout on my car showed they had been replaced just prior to me taking delivery.
The Oil cooler pipes were checked (Campaign 17D7 IIRC?)
I just had the cold start software installed last week.

As I said, if you're buying from Audi you have very little to worry about.

Bolsters as mentioned above is the big thing, if you can get hold of one which has minimal wear you're off to a good start. Its keeping them that way thats tricky as getting in and out without sliding across them isn't easy!

The technology pack also includes 2 MP3 slots.

Flat bottomed steering wheel was a no cost option AFAIK.

i bought mine from audi without seeing it

just need to be clear with them before putting down a deposit

- when we brakes (discs) last changed - can they give you a wear % ?
- when were tyres changed (audi min is 3mm)
- ask for specific pictures of drivers side seat bolster to assess the wear
- clarification of bodywork cond.. mine had stonechips which I wasnt aware of and they said they would not be prepared to repaint due to being Avus as they would need to repaint the ajoining panels

Thanks for the quick replies, much like the poster above I have made an offer car unseen. Only reservation being apparently its been smoked in  I'm re-assured by having a main dealer warranty, fingers crossed they will come back today and accept!

Don't worry I did the same.
I spotted the car for sale at Wakefield Audi and made an offer over the phone after I got the sales guy to take a couple more close up photos and clarify a few other questions I had.

Flying from Aberdeen to view the car wasn't really a viable option so put my faith in them.
Only drove it after handing over all my coins and that was the first time I had ever been in an RS4.

You also get the 1000 mile / 30 day exchange policy if there are any major issues so don't worry too much.

Good luck with your offer!

Well, offered £2k under their asking price. TBH felt certain they would accept but alas. No finance, no PX, funds ready to go...Hoping to get a call back this week. What recession eh?

I managed to get mine a grand under the asking price which they were very reluctant to agree to (they had already dropped the price of the car previously) but I just kept ending the call saying I'd have to think about it some more or wait until end of month.
They phoned me back within an hour each time and eventually agreed on my price but with only 6 months road tax instead of the 12.

Its approaching month end and more importantly, end of the financial year so depending on how their sales figures are looking, they may well take your offer.
Just don't chase them, let them come to you but make it clear you do have the full amount at hand with an immediate deposit if they were willing to accept.

They don't value cash purchases without any px as both the px and finance offer the the opportunity to make a bit extra on the deal. If you really want the car I'd suggest making a final compromise offer. To feel better about it though check out your options, there may just be a better car with Audi warranty on private sale. Good luck :)

I will happily own one, but I'm surprised they haven't been back to me. Coming to the end of sales quarter 1. These cars are expensive to tax and with petrol knocking on £1.20 a litre they surely aren't becoming more popular??!! I would have thought a main dealer had at least a £6k margin in a used RS4-or am I way off the mark? Anyone sold to a dealer and aware what they sold it on for afterward?

I originally was looking at an RS4 in Liverpool - it was 8k cheaper than the one they had at Inverness Audi because if had 10k more miles on the clock and was a year older.

I was trading in my TT-S.

Inverness said if I bought the one from Liverpool, I'd have to pay £8k as PX. And if I bought theirs, I'd also have to pay £8k. So the way I looked at it was they were offering me 8k more for my car if I bought a newer model with less mileage. I drove past the garage the other week & their selling the TT-S for what they included in the PX.

So...based on this, I think they've a bigger margin £4k - six might be about right!!
