Oil changes

Hi all

I picked my RS4 at the beginning of Feb and it's phenomenal! I love it.

I've been reading people's comments here on servicing and, more specifically, oil changes. I have a very rookie question:

Do you have to take the car to an approved Audi service centre to get the oil changed? If I don't, will my FSH status be compromised?

Ta.
Mark

in the States no...
as long as you keep records and use approved oil/filter, and follow their intervals...
I do my own, $70 for filter, oil, washer...

My understanding is, if the car is under warranty, your warranty cannot be affected by where you chose to have the car serviced as long as you use "Audi approved parts".

Audi CS will confirm that with you directly if you phone them.

Whether or not your service history will be affected is surely a question of terminology?

I use an Independent Audi Specialist for my frequent oil changes (and to be frank, anything that doesn't involve warrantied items) so that I can claim a full "Audi Service History" as opposed to a "Main Dealer Service History".

My $0.02.

Great. Thanks for your help guys.

I live in Beckenham, Kent. Anyone recommend a local Audi Specialist for non-warrantied items? By local, I mean within 50 miles. Nowhere really takes that long to get to!!

Cheers.

Your not far from me, im only in Bromley.

Top tip, stay away from Audi Bromley, useless, Bexley Audi are really good and know there way around the RS4.

I have my oil changed every 5k. I use Audi to do mine. I have not used any indies around the area, but do make the pilgrimage up to MRC/APS in the past, AMD are in Essex.

Why not do it yourself, its pretty straightforward and it gives you an excuse to look at your engine from below and wonder what everything is (like i do)

I planned on doing it myself but work next door to a garage who will do it for £20, obviously labour only. It really isn't worth the hassle for me to do it for that price. Audi want £230 ish which is £100 + labour. I'll give that a miss.

I will use them for full main dealer service, the oil is an interim change for my piece of mind

Funny you should mention Audi Bromley. I have a friend who drives an S6 and he thinks they're OK. However, I called them today just to get a price on an oil change. No-one available to tell me immediately. OK, so I don't mind waiting for a call back. Did I get one? Did I 'eck even after calling them again. I might try Bexley tomorrow. Or Camberley. Lots of people seem to sing their praises.

BTW, what is MRC/APS and AMD ?

So, anyone recommend an Audi specialist in my area (south-east London) that won't rip me off just for some new oil?

I can recommend Maidstone Audi - their service department has really improved over the past 12 months or so. I was there yesterday and the service was second to none. I dont recommend Bexley Audi based on previous experience.

Sorry Buddy I dont know of any, Bexley Motor works I suppose are the only place I would let go near the Audi, however they specialise in BMW's of course, but would most certainly look at RS's.

There is 4Rings who work a mobile service out of Dartford. prices are reasonable, I run full diagnostics.

I was recommended these guys by a guy I met at the Ring, I have never used them, but have had quotes from them regarding some last minute wok I needed, I plan on using them in the future.

DIY, it is not that difficult. Just get yourself a 10 litre oil drainage tray can from Amazon for £18, the rest is fairly easy to do with a decent socket set trolley jack( 2 ideal, one for either side) or ramps, allen key and 40 minutes of your time.
