The RS so far, problems and plans for upgrades!

Post by RS04EDD » Mon Feb 15, 2010 11:15 am

Hello all,

Ive only made a few posts since ownership, the car used to belong to the member on here beauphoto. Been in contact with him top fella and would like to meet up with him at some points. I also love the laser jammer which i dont use because its illegal. :P

Being 23 its quite a car from the fiesta i had last time. Audi have been good so far with a few problems thou i was shocked how hard audi tried to sell me finance.crazy people.

I just want to ask/view some answers to a few problems i have with the car and also review the upgrades planned.

Problems,
1.The suspension is all but gone, the ride is very soft, knocking over speed bumps etc suspected DRC.

2.I have a spinning gearknob which is driving me up the wall! has anyone had experience of this?

3.My undertray is forever rattling as usual audi seem to fix it then it lasts about a month then comes back.

4.The gearbox is very tight when cold i have read a number of times this is quite common?

5. I saw for sale the leather covers for the bucket seats. Are these easy to fit as i would like to have them done for summer.

Now the fun part. Upgrades. If you could let me know your comments on these.

1.Tubi Exhaust centre and rear box end of february.
2.Remap at MRC along with manifold check and clean out.
3. New discs and pads all round.
4. Im not sure on kw or bilstiens i had the bils on my mk1 tt and they where very good and easy to adjust.
5.ARB's
6.Lightened flywheel and new clutch.
7. 275 tyres. Which are best F1's or Michies?

Also if anyone knows this? the RS on my brake calipers is getting faded any ideas how these can be recovered. Is it a sticker etc.

all to be complete by end of march.

The car then goes to hilton coachworkds for a full front end respray plus refurb all four wheels. so shes nice and shinny for summer.

Thanks for reading this guys. Would love to meet with some more RS owners. Theres a sprint blue ive seen in sawbridge worth and and gray one in dunmow essex.

Here are my observations on gearbox oil after a trip to the continent:

Best tyres?

F1's probably...certainly in terms of cost:benefit ratio. General consensus I think it would be fair to say is the extra price for Michelins isn't worth it. You can go for the 255/35's or 275/30's depending on whether you like spending extra for nothing.

I'm not sure I'd bother with a lightened flywheel on this particular car. I think the gearbox/transmission config is probably as good as it gets like it is...

The Tubi rearboxes you won't regret for pure sound. Considered the centre at the time but was told by Tubi it isn't really needed.

Goodyear F1's 275's.

Gear know, un-clip leather gaiter, and you will see a union clip, this will need re-crimping, use mole grips, job done.

Im running KWv3 with Uprated front a rear ARBs, great, however recent bad weather has destroyed the roads in SE London, so its starting to get a pain in the butt driving, ride is very hard...however if you track the car like I do, then you will prob live with this.

Come down to the Kent meet next Sunday, 5 min from M25...click my link.
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar
