Oil Cooler Corrosion

Just had the oil cooler replaced on warranty because of a small leak apparently caused by corrosion. Anybody else had the same problem? Its not something I've heard of previously to suggest its commonplace.
Between continual DRC issues

and now an oil cooler with an apparent 2 year life span, I'm f***** off

........... even before taking into account the FSI/inlet manifold/valves issues.

forgot about the brake pads that score the discs when only partly worn.......
Quite a lot of views but no responses so maybe we can assume it is rare and I've been unlucky

That is rare, where is the oil cooler located BTW? If at the front behind main bumper grille corrosion could just because of accumulated crud, leaves etc. It is what corrodes B6 S4 auxiliary rads and the way of preventing it is to jet wash out the front end of your car every now and again.
Sounds like you have had a bad run but DRC has a cure, there are new versions of front pads that don't score and as much as inlet FSI issues are raised they have not been quantified so best not to let that ruin your experience.

Its the oile cooler lines that corrode.
Common on RS4 and RS6
Not good if you dont catch it....

Dealer posted out the original invoice to me as the car was delivered back to me. Requested that they include a copy of the "Visual Health Check Summary Report".....comments are oil cooler pipes split. Cost of parts £723.12 inc VAT

Have asked but had no response why the pipes have corroded and split in this case.
Not immediately apparent when delivered back but have since found the drivers side headlight washer isn't working. Obviously related to removal and refitting of the bumper to do the oil cooler.
Love the car, show me something better for daily use, highland roads and year round scottish weather.....while still carrying my mountain bike or dive gear. All this sh!t and cr@p service from the dealers doesn't half take the edge of though.

The dealer had my car for 4 months while they attempted to fix it.....
Guess what, its going in monday.....again:
*Emmissions light intermittently lights up
*Truely awful brake fade, again intermittent, sometimes no brakes and it feels like driving over house bricks
*DRC leaking again
*AC blows cold all the time
*Bootlid fills with water
* Using a s*it load of oil since oil cooler lines replaced
Gutted.....

OK, the explanation I have been given for the oil cooler failing on my 2 year old car is corrosion because the nut connecting the hose was overtightened at the factory, which cracked the paint off, leaving the bare metal to corrode.

My 4 had the cooler and lines changed at about 12months due to corrosion.

Does anyone have an idea of how to get to these areas of corrosion in order that I can try and make it corrosion proof?

Raise the car up and take the undertray off, about 12 twist out fasteners, and you can access the majority of pipes etc. Did mine the other day while changing oil, definate signs of corrosion on mine (06). So cleaned up and slapped on some grease.

I had my cooler and hoses changed last week due to the seals leaking with a 60% contribution from Audi customer care after speaking to them in a nice manner, my car is a 2006 model and is 6 moths out of warranty and was not bought from an Audi dealer BTW
Cost to me £400 plus the VAT

Have had to get mine replaced, pipes were corroded and the end that joined the actual oil cooler was too corroded and needed whole thing replaced, also radiator at same time as it was leaking, only had the car 1 month at the time, warranty company refused as said it was wear and tear, currently going through trading standards and the company is not taking calls, e mails and recorded letters ignored, so buy from auto prestige in bradford at your own peril, has cost me £1800 so far, dont get me wrong the car is now amazing however in the back of my mind i am always wondering what next????

They do sell RS4s @ private sale money to be fair to them, somethings gonna have to give and it sounds like its aftersales/warranty is similar to private sale ie non existant.Warrantys are rarely worth the paper there written on,audi and bmw probably the best on the market but at a premium so steep you could sort issues like this yourself every year and still be quids in.Most warranties have payout limits that barely get the car investigated at £100+ an hour labour rates at main dealers, did you read through the warranty carefully beforehand? I believe if over £12k purchase it has to be a good warranty?? I may be wrong though! Very interesting feedback though on what looks like the top seller of rs4s

I started a thread on this ages ago, have a look you might be surprised.
