I thought the S5 4.2 V8 wasn't FSI - and that it was the same engine as the S4 V8?

That's not the same engine as the RS4 (40 valve not 32 valve, indirect injection not direct injection, etc.).

I still want a turbo though.......and I thought it was a de-tuned RS4 engine with FSI

The S4 does have FSI, but its engine is far from being just a de-tuned RS4 engine...

The B8 V6 S4 certainly has FSI, the B6 V8 S4 definitely doesn't (I've owned two) and AFAIK the B7 V8 was the same engine as the B6 V8...

Sorry crossed wires somewhere, I'm talking S5, as per the original comment, not S4 which I know are a world apart from the RS4 engine.

The B7 S4 had the same power as the B6 but as far as I'm aware, at least some of them were FSI. Seen a few too, so not relying on second hand information here ;)

I gotcha but the S5 is still not a detuned RS4 engine.

To accommodate the direct injectors the FSI engines had to be changed from 5V per cylinder to 4V per cylinder, so the B6 engine is NOT the same engine as the FSI 4.2 V8.

Since you say you have seen some B7s with FSI, but you also say that the B7 S4 had the same power as the B6 - the ONLY way both these can be true is if the engine was changed during the life of the B7. Does ETKA support this?

I've just checked on ETKA and the cylinder heads of a 2003 B6 S4 have the part numbers 079 103 063 AS and 079 103 064 AS but a 2008 B7 S4 has two possible sets of part numbers 079 103 063 AS and 079 103 064 AS, or 079 103 903 GX and 079 103 904 GX - which implies that the B7 engine was changed during the 2008 MY.

Looking at the Audi website the S5 has a 354 bhp 4.2 FSI V8, whether this is the same V8 block lower revving that an RS4 I am not too sure. Not the 344 bhp 4.2 V8 sen in the B6 S4 and B7 S4 up until last year. I believe the run out B7 S4's has FSI but they are a handful.

b6 and b7 s4's are NOT fsi engines only the b8 s4 is. the s5 IS a v8 fsi (along with the q7,r8,a6 and a8) and its motor and the rs4 motor start life out on the same base block but thats where any similarities stop, from that point on there built up much differently with very different parts.

Getting back to the original thread... How much was the turbo for the S5 ?!

I doubt that the turbo for the S5 will be suitable for the RS4 - the PDF that was posted here a few weeks back shows a lot of differences between the engines.
