Post by alfaracer33 » Mon Apr 06, 2009 12:54 pm

Please can someone with experience give me the pros and cons of 'Sports Suspension Plus'. Is it too harsh?

Thanks

Alastair

not for me!

I think rAudiGuy will be quite well placed to comment, he has the non sport, and has been out in mine to see what it felt like... he said there was not much in it I think...

I like the way it looks, its amazing how low it is!

do it!

So how expensive is it? Do Audi do it as a retrofit?

Harshness is a personal thing, the only way to be sure is to drive both set-ups and decide for yourself.

No problem ;) Its a saloon though, so you better hold on if you used to the Avant ;)

Why? Do saloons have worse handling than Avants? 8)

I had my saloon on std susp for first 7000 miles.

Then swapped it for a SS+ with a car of same mileage (owned by a certain ex BTCC racer) and have doen a further 6000 miles on it.

SS+ is slightly harsher as you would expect, but by no means uncomfortable - equivalent to my previous car - a boxster S on 18"s

Pluses:

Major one is drastic reduction in body roll, which for me was the one chink in the std car's handling

10mmm lower looks better

Overall a major improvement IMHO - would not now buy one without it (I was very lucky to find someone wanting to swap the other way so cost was minimal)

so, just to check you changed the springs only? or are there other parts also?

I'm confused (not unusual) because my car is a 2MU (as opposed to 2MC) and I get little roll.

I figure roll in general is also a function of low system pressure in the DRC (and how prevalent is that bearing in mind the long list on the other thread?) and under-inflated tyres.

I tend to run slightly higher pressures in my tyres than that specified as I prefer the "feel" of the car in this configuration.

In addition, going to SS+ will almost certainly mean that you'll never get snow-chains on the bugger...thats the main reason I never went down that route. Even on SS cars, fitting them on the rear would be asking for trouble...

Im pretty sure the SSP was only a Euro option? Is there a way to do the conversion on a US spec RS? Links to parts? Does it still utilize the DRC? Thanks.
