Im facing my first year's insurance renewal and have had some 'interesting' quotes that irritate me.
I have an 07 Avant, 10k miles/year, sdp+business use, 29 years old, full no claims, 1 SP30. Quotes so far:
Privilege - £1189 (current insurer)
Direct Line - £1188
Elephant - £1190
More Than - Refused
Norwich Union - £3186
Last year my old ST220 was £650 (which I thought was reasonable). The first 3 are suspiciously close! (I know Direct Line is Privilege, but usualy one beats the other).
Anyone have any comments?

Have you tried the supermarket insurers? Can't really comment because i ma with MoreThan. Have you had any non-fault accidents because believe it or not your premiuim will increase because of this even thought you have protected no claims and as said, it wasn't your fault.
I had two non-fult accidents in the space of 14 months in my RS and my premuim went up by 15% because and I quote 'you are a higher risk of accident driver'
WTF! So basically it costs me more because I drive my car?!?

I had one 'incident'. Some drunk Irish woman crashed in to my ST220 while it was parked outside my old house and wrote it off. I was asleep in bed! Will probably still affect my premium though!
That was just over 3 years ago. Some insurers ask about claims in the last 3 years, and others in the last 5.

would that have been a claim on your insurance though? surely hers covered the full cost of replacement?

Yes it was fully covered by hers. Still counts as a claim though. You do get to select the option showing it was fully their fault though. Previously ive found that that incident hasnt affected my premium.

annoying...
I'm with morethan, have you tried greenlight, or Adrian Flux?

Try Admiral...just saved us £500 on both our cars yesterday. My daughter insured her first car (Fiesta ST) recently with them as well - although expensive, they were the most competitive we could find.
Norwich Union - £3186 - ''Quote me happy obviously''

Greenlight - Man says 'No' (over £30k value)
Adrian Flux - £1231

I had two claims last year, first for about 15 years, drove my C55 into some flood water and the engine sucked a bit in...AMG quoted 25k for a new lump, and another 5k for exhausts! Not surprisingly they wrote it off (two weeks before my 3 years GAP cover expired, it's enough to make you religious!). Anyway, the other was when I backed the horse lorry into my S3 a little bit

so, two claims and two sp30's in the last 5 years and I got cover on the RS4 for £472.00 from Privilege, Norwich Union quoted £640.00. As someone said, protected NCD doesn't stop them increasing the premium. N.U said at renewal time last year "yes sir, your no claims is protected, but your premium isn't". I love insurance companies!

Admiral comes in at £1257 - their quote system is exactly the same as Elephant, and their quote is almost exactly the same, so I assume they are the same company (like Direct Line and Privilege).
Thanks for the suggestion!
It seems that most of them are closly priced, so I doubt I going to get anything much better
How does £1188 compare to other people?

Well your doing better than me (insurance cost wise, not accident wise!

) I dont think they like my post code
£25k for a new engine is impressive!
Oh well. Thanks for your comments. £1188 it is I think!

Have you got an other half?
Is she a named driver?
Putting my wife on my RS4's insurance dropped it a bit.
Admittedly I'm 39, but your Direct Line quote does look high - I'm with them and paying about £750 I think, ungaraged in North London.

I would also try Sainsburys and Tescos as a comparison

Greenlight won't insure cars over £30K. I was with them for my S4 and they were great, even had track day insurance as part of my agreement; but when I switched to my RS and they asked the value they weren't intersted for the above reason.
Adrian Flux are good price wise but worse customer service wise than MoreThan and that is saying something! Swiftcover is good, albiet part of Adrina Flux so long you have no mods on your car they are very competitive. Also hear Noel Dazeley being mentioned from time to time or A Plan
