Knocking, had bits and more bits changed but still knocking.

The dealers changed the front shocks (due to leaking) and i now get a knock only from the OSF.
If you imagine a speed bump its on the way down when i get the knock.

Its been back twice since having the shocks done. The first time they tightened up the subframe and the second time i didnt get a list of what was done.

Please can you help, becuase they obviously cant seem to fix it. The last time, i left it with them for a week and a half with no courtesy car.
Its starting to take away from the pleasure of owning the car.

Thats funny, mine does this, only a very slight knock, but mainly over speed bumps. My DRC was replaced 2 months ago, but the service is due in a couple of thousand miles, so I'll wait till then - I have notified them about it.

Where do you get your work done?

Is the knocking over shallow traffic calming measures and imperfections in the road byt not oer the big speed humps?

If so this is what mine did when the DRC wasn't pressurised properly and they need to purchase a special DRC II tool from Audi GMBH to do the job. Using the one for the C5 RS6 DRC won't work.

I'll see if I can get some more information on what this 'special' tool is.

These are the worst ones:-

But do still notice it on normal ones.
I will ask them what they are using. They have told me twice now that their machine has broken on the previous RS4 (they said they were re-gassing them). I personally believe they share one for the whole group (essex audi).

I have the same, DRC fixed to the new shocks and over this certain bump on the way to work it was fine for a few weeks - now its back!
Taken it back to Camberley, all shocks showing 12 (bar?) so cant be that, but its going back soon for more warranty work so if its gone from 12 we will know its leaking (if very slowly)

Good luck ;)

IIRC it should be 14. Mine was 10 when I notcied the knocking in the rear suspension

This is exactly what keeps happening to my car

The car has been in numerous times, and they replace shocks, replace DRC balance valve, new fluid etc. The car is fine for a couple of weeks, and then the knocking comes back, getting progressively worse, until I can stand it no more, and resort to letting the dealer have my car.

Cue repeat of above. This has now happened about 5 times, and is getting very annoying.

Last time, they identified the side gearbox mount as the issue. No idea why, as each time they re-pressureise the DRC the problem goes away for a while.

Not surprising really then, that despite the new gearbox mount, the suspension is knocking again

make sure your stealer is charging it properly (as P_G says)

Perhaps pop down to Camberley (its worth the journey) probably one of the only stealers in the country that know what they are doing with the RS, people come from far and wide! (no joke!). I think a high majority of their work is with the performance cars..

My car is back with Audi 12 months after all 4 shocks were replaced......not happy.....they are leaking again and knocking noises been happening the last week or so. Apparently parts on back order so will see how long they take!

This could spell the end of the RS4 after 3 fun years!!

mine has had this problem twice now the first time they replaced all four shockers the second i dont know the outcome because it went to my local stealers in sheffield today but i will let you know the outcome but the knock is very very annoying, they have gave me a brand new s3 courtesy car and guess what that has a very similar knock very bizzare

Let me know how you get on.

My car has been there the last couple of times, after Doncaster Audi failed miserably at fixing the issue.

Dave W is the technician that keeps (unsucessfully) trying to rectify the issue......

I'm a bit worried abut this 'knock on rebound' issue: mine did it really badly when the DRC failed.

However, once fixed (by Audi at their MK Tech Centre), it only did it over very sharp speed bumps (of the viscous semi-circular profile in e.g. supermarket car parks). And if you went over at the pace you ought to be it didn't. Just a bit too quick and there was a slight knock.

I'd really value one of the Audi guys (preferably from somewhere like Camberley) to affirm for us one way or the other whether a 'knock' (on rebound i might add, not compression) is what these cars do or not.

Only reason for this is that we can all do without the blood pressure which any sort of knock for a DRC-equipped car generates, if, in fact, it is an acceptable feature.

Equally if ANY knock is absolutely not right (e.g. early indication of lost pressure etc.) then let's know that too.

Got mine back today after having shocks/valves replaced, all seems fine at the moment - planning a work out tomorrow so hope too god its sorted out. Got to say though I am really amazed at the costs involved £1500 just for parts, glad its happend now rather than outside my warrenty period. We add a thread tomorrow re outcome.
