996 Turbo to RS4 Avant or RS4 Avant to 996 Turbo?

Anyone gone from one to another, interested in hearing the Pros and Cons of each from those who've owned both.

Thinking of one or the other have still got to test drive.

RS4 Avant obviously has the added practicality, but can't help but thinking the 996 Turbo is the performance bargin at the moment.

I can only say one thing: I love my 996 turbo. Never owned an RS4 before but I have now owned my S4 saloon for over 4 years, it's plenty fast, well sorted and everything (check signature), BUT the Porsche is just something totally different, much more stable, more involved when driving it fast (I "converted" mine to RWD) and just faster!!!

I considered both before settling on the B7 due to its blend of practicality, novelty and performance and how it sat with my lifestyle.

So I've only driven both.

Lots of torque in the Porsche, although less than I expected in stock form. Interior lacked a few gadgets I wanted - because I was considering a 05 car at the time...

I'd love a 996 GT2 (essentially S2Tuner's car) or a 997TT but more likely to settle on an old oil burner and build myself a R400/R500 at the moment...

If you don't need the practicality of an estate and are making your choice based purely on driving dynamics and performance you can't beat the 996 Turbo. As I own both a RS 4 cab and a 996 Turbo I can assure you both cars are superb but the 996 turbo is more fun IMHO.
My turbo is standard bar factory aerokit and aftermarket Titanium sports exhaust but there is still lots more untapped potential when I get bored. Unfortunately the RS4 being normally aspirated doesn't give this option
