I have seen an RS4 that I am considering purchasing but it has a factory fitted mobile phone cradle that is useless as it won't carry my phone.

It also has bluetooth but as I have an iphone I pressume this is useless too.

Is there any way to remove the phone cradle or will I have to live with it?

Yes, the cradle can be removed. Not too sure if it requires a new piece of trim or not bit craigy b can confirm.

As for the iPhone, it works perfectly well with the Audi bluetooth set-up.

You need to replace the centre console - it's one single piece of trim - unless you want to see the holes.

Consoles can be bought for around £60, but removing it and reinstalling is a good couple of hours work if you've not done it before.

Excellent news. It probably wouldn't have been a deal breaker but does look a bit ugly.

If you have an Iphone, why not just but the iphone craddle adaptor that fits onto the bracket. It charges the Iphone and makes it legal to use while driving?

The i-Phone will work via Bluetooth through the RNS-E unit so the only thing you lose out on over the i-phone cradle is not having the charging option. I put mine in my front armrest.

I too would rather have the phone out of the way and not have the phone cradle.

At least it isn't an expensive job. Does anybody know where I can pick up a replacement centre console?

Unless you're very lucky and there's one on eBay probably an Audi dealer - maybe worth trying Ipswich Audi, they have a guy on TSN (NelsonA4Sline IIRC) who's pretty helpful).

Shows you haven't been on there for a while Dave! His sig. now on TSN is Nelson_R32, IIRC A4 got trashed in an accident, the A3 and then R32.

Like said djt very helpful guy and decent price on parts although I imagine a centre console given its size may cost a bit to courier.

Please can somebody advise where you can get an ipod cradle adaptor that clips onto the Audi cradle?

coz the cradle is so damn ugly and embarrasingly 80s? Its legal to use BT without the cradle surely

It's definitely illegal to hold the phone or press any buttons (including touch screen "buttons") while driving.

Operating ANY piece of equipement that is part of the car MAY be illegal if operating it is so difficult that it distracts you enough for, in the opinion of a "plod", you to be driving with due care or worse...

Operating a phone with the Audi BT kit is does with either the steering wheel buttons (if you have an MFSW) - which would be VERY difficult to argue is sufficiently distracting, or by using the controls on the RNS-E sat nav - which COULD possibly be sufficiently distracting.

Remember some people now have points on their licence for things like eating a sandwich while driving, ... so there is no simple yes/no answer.
