Grrrr...

Picked a nail up the other night, right on the shoulder of the tyre. Local tyre company won't repair it so I'm £280 out of pocket (Michelin Pilot Sport) Tyre was less than a month old

Would it be worth putting on eBay with an honest description ?

Could anyone do anything with it ?

Sidewall? nope. Someone may buy it to turn into a park swing, but it can't/shouldn't be used on a car, unless someone wants someone dead

Had the same thing a while back and had to replace.no one will repair shoulder/ sidewall damage due to the flexing of this area.If you look inside the tyre there is a rough area starts towards the edge of the tyre which i think is the point from where a repair should not be attempted.

I think the rule of the thumb is if puncture within 2 inches of the sidewall its game over.

Just count yourself lucky both (?) tyres on the axel were only 1 month old - if the other had worn more you should be replacing both!

Years ago I had the same thing happen to a Pirelli P6 (yes many years ago) and my local tyre supplier sent it away for a specialist repair but maybe they don't do this any more. I also had the benefit of a spare wheel to run around on while it was done though.

it's happened to me too and i had to chuck it away. i was advised to put a large deliberate cut into the side wall to ensure that any unscruplous person finding it didn't try to repair it and sell it, thereby endangering someone.

I got a piece of metal fence stuck in a new tyre within 5miles of getting them fitted. Local tyre place said because it was near the side wall they couldn't repair it but sent me to a specialist who vulcanised it for me. Basically they drill the area and inject new rubber. Save me a tyre but you must only use the repaired tyre on the rear.

My little sister just phoned me this morning to tell me about her second rear puncture in a week (different side) on her brand new A3 convertible.

The previous one was a nail and the second one was... another nail. Tyre place says it looks like it's been deliberately hammered in, presumably both at the same time. She'd driven over 500 miles in the last week since the last one deflated.

There are some nasty jealous people out there!

Shop around more - that's a ridiculous price even for a PS2, it should be at least £50 less than that.

Same thing happened to me, got 4 new tyres and 3 days later picked up a nail. Part of me wonders if it's a tyre dealer's trick to get some more business on the basis that once you've bought 4 you'll probably just come straight back to them....
