B8 RS4

Post by ARSEY4 » Fri Aug 29, 2008 10:20 am

Been looking around on the net and there seems to be 2 views on the B8. Audi will not produce a b8 and concentrate on a rs5 or they will produce an b8 and keep to just producing Rs4s an 6s and introduce an s5 evo.

If Audi keep to their existing rules, there will not be a B8 based RS4, so far they (Audi) have only produced RS variants of the A4 in alternate generations i.e. B5 and B7 but not B6. not sure how it works with the A6 series..

I have been told by a tuning company in switzerland that the next Rs4 will not carry the Hi revving engings but a twin turbo 3.6 v6. As audi drew a conclusion that the B7 engines were not a hit in relation to the B5's 2.7 Twin turbos hence the move to the twin turbo route again.

this will then make our B7 RS4s unique then!

It's more for emission purposes than anything else, the new S4 is a supercharged V6 so if Audi models lines follow suit the B5 S4 for 2.7T and RS4 2.7T, B7 S4 V8 and RS4 V8 (realise the RS4 was an FSi high rev V8 and the S4 wasn't but displacement and engine config. the same), then the next RS4 is likely to use a similar plant to the S4. However I would wonder whether they will wait until a facelift B9 before bringin out another RS4 prior to new chasis development?

I think I'm going to risk a deposit just in case

For me I wouldn't bother with a deposit. You pay a premium for the car at list brand new, people place orders and then cancel them or place orders to move them on straight away. With every car including the R8 there have always been models around to buy without waiting.

Admitedly it depends if the car has the spec you want but put it this way, Audi won't be quick in ringing you back to refund your deposit if there is not a B8 RS4.

I asked Audi about the RS5 a few weeks ago. They rang me last week and said that the RS5 is defenitely happening.

So, I don't think B8 RS4 will be produced. I reckon the next RS4 will be B9, unless Audi decides to produce more than one RS at a time.

They are already in the TT-RS, RS6 and soon to be RS5. And with an RS3 muted (I'll believe it when I see it, 5 years in the making) that could be 4

So no space for an RS4 I suspect.

Have a look on www.rs6.com. There is loads info re the upcomming RS5. The general oppinion is that the engine will be a v8.
they have an ideal platform to make an absolute stunning car hopefully they dont cock it up like the TTRS.
I think there are a few posts re B8 RS4.

I thought I heard or read somewhere that there will be an RS3 and an RS5 but the RS4 will be retired as the RS3 and RS5 sportbacks will cover the RS4 markets......not sure its true though

I have no figures to back this up with, but purely on the numbers of RS cars I see on the roads (RS4's being most common) I'm not sure that would be a wise strategy for Audi. It'd be kinda like BMW killing the m3 in favour of an m1. Time will tell I guess.

Ah yes! www.rs6.com has lots of discussions about the RS5 and RS5 and RS4 could be produced almost at the same time, could happen, I think, but then it's all just rumors.

We just have to wait and see. RS5 should be the next RS and hopefully coming soon. Maybe it'll have a 5.2 V10. Yeah, I wish!!!!
