having seen the suede finish on the steering wheel of that 62k Ibis white avant on pistonheads I'm curious to know has anyone retrofitted these?
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/439586.htm
I'd imagine the gearknob and handbrake would be easy enough but the steering quite tricky?
Would a company who refit leather seats be able to re stitch an existing wheel?
If I could this mod to an Rs4 I'm looking at buying it'd be the icing on the cake!

I would like my wheel done also and have looked into it a bit. I have found a company that can supply a flat bottom multi function wheel much luke the R8 one and have emailed them to see if they can do it. I also wondered what the top of the dash would look like in suede, much like an Aston DBS!!!

The only posts I've seen about the suede option were to complain that it wore out very quickly (few hundred miles only in one case)...

Dave - thanks for that its something that has concerned me. Am I right in thinking Aston also fit a suede wheel? If so I can't imagine that their's would wear that quick.

The cost is £1900 for the three items from Gmbh. That was enough for me to stick with what I've got. This didn't include fitting. After a while the steering wheel can start to look really shabby. Used to own a CSL and shaved the bobbles off with a bic razor.

i had the Alcantara steering wheel on my RS6, it looked good until i had the car for 6 months then it started to wear at the sides where you grip the wheel, and in my opinion thats when it started to look tatty.I bought a leather RS6 steering wheel on Ebay and changed them over, now looks alot better

A mate of mine has a suede / alcantara wheel on his A4 S-line Avant.
His car is younger than mine and the wheel looks tatty already!

Suede looks and feels great but unfortunately is not practical at all.

Yes, the wheels don't last anywhere near 60k. I had 2 replaced by BMW under warranty - as they went all bobbley. Unfortunatey, it is the sweat in your hands that knackers them out. My third one was ok, but thats because I made sure I wore gloves on hot track-days.
