ECU SW confusion, advice sought

Post by mattf » Mon Jun 23, 2008 8:59 pm

All,

Looking for some advice.

Recently acquired a 56 plate Avant having PX'd my B5. Very pleased with the result. However, not entirely convinced the garage knew quite what they were on with reference to ECU SW.

I have read my way through all the ECU related threads I can find, but remain confused (easily done)

Can anyone confirm what ECU SW my car should be running? 0050, 0080 or 0090? Logic says 0090, but does the age of the car play a part in the SW it should be running?

Am I right in thinking that if I do need to get the ECU SW updated, it should be done FOC?

Much emphasis has been placed on ensuring the ECU is zeroed prior to any re-programming, but there seems to be large discrepancies in the competence of Audi dealers when asked to do this - does anyone have any experience with Worcester or Gloucester Audi in dealing with RS4s?

Thanks in advance

0090 is the latest, and dealers will update for free. It's a good point about zeroing, and it seems like some dealers do a better job than others. Afraid I've no experience of the ones you mention...

Can someone let me exactly what enhancements/fixes etc. the most recent Software release includes?

Mine has been done today as per the recent recall, it's is a May 07 car & this is her first software update so curious what will change?? TBH it's only being done as it's a recall as i've no problems on the car that need fixing as far as i know.

I don't know about 090. But all depends on your hardware.

Mine is may 07. Hardware type D. And the latest version of the software was 030 (6 months ago). While it was 080 on older models.

recently had 090 installed. It has cured (hopefully) the missing when cold problem. Tick over now is about 7000 rpm!!!! Fortunatly I dont have to many other houses near me otherwise it could be a problem! Especialy as I have a non valved non resonated Miltek! Other than this the power bands seems a bit higher thats about it.

W8PMC - the 0090 is about improving engine tolerance of short journeys. In my experience, it does seem to 'add' a fast idle which i did not have previously on cold start. LAsts about 90 secs and is between 1000 and 2000 rpm. Not, er, 7000...

Sorry i was joking about the 7000 rpm it just seems really high and noisy! Seems an odd way to sort out lumpy cold running problems to me!

You obviously haven't heard a Lotus Esprit S4 at cold start-up.... the initial tickover is well over 2000rpm (to warm up the catalytic converters fast). Seems insane to me making a really cold engine tickover that fast.

SimonFV8 - if poss be interesting to confirm that 0090 is applicable to ALL RS4s or just certain model yr per Ritchy's Q. And/or whether it corrects anything other than this short journey issue. I am convinced my car has more edge mid-range since 0090.

OK from the horses mouth (or so to speak) Yes the 090 software applies to all RS4 B7's. I have also had it explained to be why the high tick over is needed and when I said this seems like an odd way to cure the problem my mate reminded me how high an F1 car ticks over and the need to blip them when cold!

All to do with petrol not burning off, cats warming up in a set amount of time etc etc!
