Warped discs suddenly cured

Was having the traditional vibration through the wheel which indicates worn/warped discs

car is a year old / 8k miles, never been tracked, I am not hard on brakes (can't remember kicking in ABS)

the vibration appeared about 3 months ago and got steadily worse, most noticeable with gradual braking from medium or low speed

car went to an independent who said discs looked visible warped

car goes into dealer for first service recently and I ask them to look, they say they are fine and sure enough had not had the vibration back since the car was returned

Of course made me feel a fool but seems odd, unless the there was some crud on the discs that got removed or they removed it. I take it if the disc was warped it would not improve unless replaced?

Any ideas or similar experiences?

Adam...

Having done 80,000 miles in mine, I don't think you have warped disks. Get your wheels rebalanced. Every time I replace tyres, a week later I need to rebalance as they spin on the rm because the soap they use hasn't dried.

Its a cheap start. I have never warped disks, and believe me, they get caned

I must have said this a dozen times, DISCS THAT ARE MOUNTED CORRECTLY DO NOT WARP.

It was the 'crud' on them that was causing the vibration.

the rebalancing tip is handy although this would cause vibration whilst not braking - no?

thanks turbo - it was a suspicion of mine, but was then confirmed by an Audi specialist who I thught would know far more about it than me!

Audi guys swear they did not do anything to them (clean or skim) so it is very weird that the problem has gone since the service. Main thing is it is now fine but I can't help being curious (and confused)

my car is booked in for the exact same thing. When breaking from hi speed I get alot of steering wheel vibration... Should I get the wheels and tyres aligned balanced instead?

The vibration only occurs under breaking, not when accelerating/driving normally

I get the same thing on initial contact but with progressive applied pressure it cures. I think mine just need a bit of a clean / scrubbing

As suggested above.
It may have been corrosion that has caused the vibraton under braking, with all the winter salt on the roads.

The issue is made worse when the car is washed wheels inc, put into the garage for a few days, throw in a bit of diluted road salt for good measure. The pads corrode to the disc, bingo brake judder.

I just had my front discs replaced under warranty today by Cardiff Audi.

Pleased with their service.

Car developed a vibration under braking....not severe but noticeable.

They're sending the discs off to Audi for analysis because I told them I would be surprised if their diagnosis of "warp" was correct. To be fair they agreed with me.

Car feels magic again though.

My '07 Avant is back in the shop at the moment as it has now gone through 3 sets of discs (all warped) in it's six month life. I can't believe it's faulty discs - and the hub run-out has always checked out OK, so now it's going to a different dealer with Audi UK tech involved...

I'll post with the outcome once I've heard more!

I has mine replaced some 6000 miles ago and thought the new ones were warped as had judder as mentioned earlier in this thread. A quick clean with power blaster Karcher attachment with wheels off last weekend has cleaned out the cross drilled holes and sure enough, no judder now.

Just a case of taking the crud off.
