New style Impreza STi (Pro-drive)

Had a little play with a new style (hatch) Impreza STi yesterday on my 'cough' private motorway. It must have been pro-drive tuned as it was plastered with their logo. Anyway from 70-ish it faired OK but I was reeling him in slowly at first but then I had to back off as would have been up his chuff.
First one I've seen on the road though.

I wasn't aware the new impreza Sti had actually been launched in the UK yet.
If the press are to be believed, the prodrive version will be almost 400bhp. In a car quite a bit lighter than the RS4, the prodrive would keep up very well. I imagine above 100mph, the RS4 would still pull away though.

Its not as yet though Prodrive will be developing the new wrc and group n cars so will be pushing the link.
The jdm models still keep the 2.0l block and will be pushing around 310bhp though a simple remap and exhaust gets to 360 comfortably.
Apart from the love it or hate it looks the car has been getting some good reviews. Given Mitsi can't sort the gearboc on the EvoX the new impreza may do better than first thought.

Hmmm - could be interesting , as on the motorways near to me, the Police drive unmarked Suburu's.....so beware before you 'tease' .
Have to say though, difficult to imagine how you could possibly compare this rattly, unreliable, heap of s**t with something as spectacular as an RS4 (but just my opinion).

It's very hard to resist doing that when the traffic ahead clears and the car in front punches the loud pedal. Not many on here wouldn't take the bait given the right conditions

Not looked back at the Scooby since I switched to the S4 in 2001. I remember that the MY01 was a real ugly car but then Subaru revised it and it sort of looked OK. Then I remember hearing that they had changed to a 2.5 litre engine so thought that maybe they would get interesting again.
Anyway, prompted by this thread I have had a look at the new STi. My initial impression is that it doesn't look too bad and performance seems good.
So I then decided to go to the Subaru website. And I looked at the Impreza 1.5R...
...OMG what a hideous car.
Then I look at the 2.5 WRX...
...doesn't look much better
So frankly I don't think it matters how fast the STi or the Prodrive version is - nobody with any self-respect could buy one!!!
I'm a bit confused about the engine figures for the WRX. For a 2.5 litre engine those look like tuned NA figures, not turbo. But if not turbo, what's the point of the air scoop???

unreliable? thought the opposite was the case given the driver satisfaction ratings, better that Audi no doubt too

i agree ... subarus are bomb proof ..yes they have a bit of an image problem but as far as driving dynamics are concernd a well sorted wrx/sti are very very hard to beet at any price !

Spot on....if only 'other' cars were the same...
Had a few Japanese machines, and the only thing I remember going wrong, was with the dealer fit alarm on my Integra Type R (80K in 2 years including the track and 'still sweet as a nut').

I loved my JDM STI - it was running 380/380 in the end and was/is more than capable of giving an RS4 a run for its money. I changed it due to the image that came with it but a well sorted one is a great car.
As for reliability i never had any faults in 4 years and 2 cars. Since i have had the Audi it has been back to the dealer 4 times for 6 faults in 6 months

Subarus are not as reliable now as they used to be in the 90's.
I bought a 2003 sti new and had nothing but trouble for the 1st couple of years. Dead batteries/knackered rear shocks/engine managment light etc and these were all common faults on a lot of the blob eyed(03-05) cars.
