Water in boot lid?
Water in boot lid?
Opened the boot this morning and heard the sound of water as it went up!
At first thought it might be coming down the reservoir channels so tried it again and it seems it has some water in-between the skins.
Will be off to Audi as soon as time permits but in the meantime anyone else experienced this?

RE: Water in boot lid?
There has been mention of water in a saloon bootlid before and I've also suffered the same on my B5

Should have mentioned i did try the search before posting! anyone else had this and how was it resolved?
RE: Water in boot lid?
My car is still suffering, having not used it for a few weeks after getting it back from dealers for same problem, the boot is full of water again. Not in my case, but I have come across failures on the seals of lights in the bootlid. I had mine stripped yesterday and a hose running on it all afternoon with no sign of water getting in. Dried the boot off and refitted all the trims and to my surprise, the bootwell is full of water again this morning. There appears to be two plastic covers on the drain holes on each side of the boot lid, on an avant, when I removed these there was no evidence of water buildup in the lid. Car is off back to dealers on Monday.

That's why Avants are faster - they're not lugging a gallon of water
Sounds bad for both of you - hope it gets sorted soon...

2007 Daytona RS4 Avant
Had the same thing the other day.
All credit to Craig at Portsmouth Audi - called him mid - afternoon, he was here with another car by the end of the day, took mine back, strpped the bootlid, checked another couple of "niggles" and brought it back freshly valeted. Seems to know his stuff on the RS/R8 as well.
Anyway, he said that they had found a couple of very small holes in the light fitting where the plastic trim runs along the inside edge of the bootlid - if water draining off the rear window/roof down the side channels of the boot was heavy enough it appears to get in behind the trim. He has resealed the whole unlt and said to keep an eye on it; but there does not appear to be any other way for water to enter the bootlid itself, so this should be it.
Water was also sitting inside the bootlid trim - when open, I pulled away the edge below the warning triangle, it was like a waterfall. Dried and refitted so we shall wait and see.

Water in boot lid?
I experienced water in my boot lid. Took it back to the dealers and they replaced the seals round the lights (FOC). Job done in a day and have suffered no more water problems. What a difference it made to the speed of the carMarkB wrote:There has been mention of water in a saloon bootlid before and I've also suffered the same on my B5

RE: Water in boot lid?
Mine is ready to collect just ran out of time today with the problem fixed so I'm told....... seems the seals around the rear bumper mounting bolts had failed and water was running in through there, also found traces of water from captives which hold wheel arch liner in place, with a dirty tide mark on the inside of the left hand well behind the wheel. Here's hoping.

Has your car ever been hit up the back? there seems so much going wrong at the back of your car for it to be any other reason.simple1 wrote:Mine is ready to collect just ran out of time today with the problem fixed so I'm told....... seems the seals around the rear bumper mounting bolts had failed and water was running in through there, also found traces of water from captives which hold wheel arch liner in place, with a dirty tide mark on the inside of the left hand well behind the wheel. RE: Re: RE: Water in boot lid?
I think this 'water in the bootlid' thing is a known problem with RS4s. I had the same problem with mine - the boot lid always filled with water after a rain storm (no leakage into the boot itself though). Took it in to Audi Hitchin and they diagnosed a probable fault with the rubber seals around both rear light clusters. They ordered and fitted new ones under warranty, and thus far the problem appears to have been solved. Take your car down to the nearest dealership and insist they do the same!
