Whining noise

My RS just got to about 2k miles. It seems to me that there is quite a whine which comes from the engine from low revs, particularly if blipping throttle when stationary. I live a long way from dealer so don't want to make an unecessary trip & no RS 4 near me to check out. Is this normal ?

Mine whines when holding the revs in 2nd gear at about 30mph and then letting the throttle off. I thought this was normal and think it sounds great.

The whining noise is common with the S4/RS4 V8's. Its the chains etc.

Mine does this and the first one i test drove. I think it sounds great, a bit like mad max's black interceptor when he presses the supercharger button.

Mine does it and I am on 26k miles. Don;t worry boys, it does sound like a supercharger....not as nice as the sound from the MTM charger though...!

Same here - i took my car back to Audi who confirmed its completely normal - something to do with load in the box.

The only whining noise I get is when the missus is in the car...
Sorry, couldnt resist...
But on a more serious note, I havent noticed this on both the B7 RS4's I've had

Hi John,
You'll hear it if you start the car and rev it while having the driver door open. It is very noticeable and is not a screechy sound, more like a supercharger whine. Every B7 RS4 (I've come across around 10) I've seen does this and it is totally normal.
If you still can't hear it, get your ears syringed

OK Alex, thats one thing I don't do is rev it with the doors open, I will try that tomorrow.

Could be the air con compressor... turn the compressor off and see if the whining stops?

Well I just tried that and it was bloody scary going down the A14 with the door open I can tell you, but you're right - I did hear it.
