Damaged discs

Post by marktowl » Tue Aug 07, 2007 9:37 am

Had my RS4 since June last year and have to say is the best car I have ever driven!
I have had problems with the brakes (front discs and pads)
I have done 24K miles and the pad indicator warning light has come on. I have taken the car to Audi to have them replaced but have been told that the discs are damaged. There are score marks on both discs. They have said it is stone damage but I have had them checked elsewhere and the scores are in the same place on both sides and in three different sites on the disc.
Has anyone else had problems?
I have been told to get a report as will need to see if fault. Costly fault

Hi, I have some scores on my discs but they are not that bad.

It's a fairly well known problem that the discs warp and a lot of owners have had their discs/pads replaced, one guy has had his replaced 3 times.

If a disc gets scored then more often than not it's because of bad pad make-up. Do you have any cracking on your discs, look at the holes closely and see if you have cracks going from the holes to the outside and inside of the disc, although if you've got to 24k before the light has come on then I suspect that the car has been driven carefully and you won't have any cracking.

I'd get an independant report and contact Audi UK and push for free discs and pads but at 24k I doubt you'll get the pads but worth a try all the same.

My discs warped on my S4 at 20k and I got new discs and pads from Audi but ended doing a deal with them for a B7 RS4 set-up.
