New RS4 - things to check?
New RS4 - things to check?
Finally got the call from the dealer on Tuesday, and my brand new Avant will be delivered next Monday - and I can barely contain the excitement!
I was wondering whether you guys can give me a few pointers on things to check before I sign for the car? As an example I've heard some horror stories of the cars not having sufficient oil etc.
Grateful for any and all experiences.

I'll have had mine three weeks on Monday so I can guarantee, you're in for a great experience on the roads from now on !!
A few pointers :-
1) Ask for top-up oil - I did and got a bottle
2) You only get 1/2 tank of fuel - look disgusted and they'll fill her up for you!
3) RS4 keyring - ask them to throw in the Audi Collection leather tabbed key-ring
4) Mileage - don't worry that there are 40 odd miles on the clock
5) Valet prep - make sure the paintwork is not covered in swirls
Moreover, enjoy the car - it's toptastic !!!

As well as above, for me a 'must do' for delivery is..
1. Autolock
2. Disable double click access
3. Change welcome screen on Nav from "Audi" to "RS4"
4. Ask that all recent ECU and Nav updates have been applied.
Most of all enjoy!

June 08 S5 ¦ Phantom Black ¦ Black Silk Nappa Interior ¦ Carbon Trim ¦ DVD Nav Plus ¦ DAB Radio ¦ AMI ¦ Phone Prep High ¦ Bang & Olufsen ¦ Parking Plus ¦ Heated Memory Seats ¦ Auto Dipping Rear & Side Electrically Folding Mirrors ¦ Adaptive Xenon's and no Mod's just yet

Agree with everything above, although I've kept double click access and prefer silent door locking
My only ones to add are
1.) Check the wheels very carefully - not just for damage but signs of refurbishment. A few posters have had this issue with new cars
2.) Check the leather interior - it's easy to assume all flaws are outside
3.) Discuss whether service interval has been set to annual or variable
4.) Check mirror for signs of smug grin when pulling away

It is a brilliant car; you’ll enjoy everytime you get in to it!, especially when the 7K warm up rev-limiter disappears…
Just watch the oil level, for me it didn’t seem to use much until about the 2K mark and since then she drinks anywhere between a litre and two litres every thousand/ fifteen hundred miles (currently at 8K).
It’s the sort of thing you can forget about during the honeymoon period....

I don't agree any highly tuned car shoudl go 18k miles without an oil chnage, might be OK if its an A3 1.6 but not an RS4.jackwood wrote:Why is annual better than varaible servicing?
If a car (used) is already on one service rogram, can it be swapped to the other?
Jack
It can be swapped and I believe you can actually do this yourself in the DIS, at least that is what the dealer told me when I asked him to swap it over. Same oil is used but service indicator works off the 12mth annniversary date rather than oil quality monitoring.
Picked the car up Friday... 300 miles done already and it's every bit as good as exepcted
Checked everything you guys mentioned, and all in order - bar the RNS-E startup screen which needed to be changed to the RS4 specific one. Also got the servicing interval set to annual (although 10,000 miles seems a bit infrequent to me)
Only thing I havent checked yet is whether they put the right oil in the spare can in the boot.

Depends if a dealer can be bothered or not. It should form part of the PDI, like double locking, auto-lock & alarm beep etc. but often gets missed.
I had mine done during re-map, as i gave the relevant instructions & codes to the tuner whilst they had the lappy plugged in & they just fired up VAG-COM & ammended mine. Anyone that can use & has VAG-COM can do this & if your search on here you'll find the relevant instructions & codes.
