Strange click noise when turning steering wheel

Hi Guys,
I must be becoming paranoid after a couple of issues that I have had with my car so far.
Just recently, I noticed that as I turn the steering wheel (even when the car is stationary) I get a click noise. On a full lock cycle, there are about 2 of these clicks sounding. It's got me a little worried 'cos I am paranoid that the Steering Rack or something similar may be going.
Has anyone else experienced such a thing? Should I be concerned? I am going to check with the dealer as well.
Thanks for any advice,
Saint.

Hi,
This may sound stupid, but I had a Golf IV that did that in the last year or so of ownership, and they (garage) never got to the bottom of it!
But the car handled great, even though the sound pissed the hell out of me!

Sound like what I had on my Avant. It was the Knuckle Carrier (german word Achsschenkelträger), which was changed. The mounts are now more stiffer, which improves the handling slightly.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll ask the dealer to check the knuckle carrier. The last time, I printed the advice from this forum and the dealer got it right first time. Hopefully this will be the case again.

Do you have it in the dry or just in the wet?
Is it almost like the drive is worn and cracking every rotation?

I get it in both wet and dry. I am off to the dealer to have it checked out ... Hopefully they can resolve the issue. I am the second owner of the car but it had only done 4500 when I got it so this shouldn't really be a problem. I do not thrash the car either, so no reason for these issues. Great car but every time something goes wrong with it, my enthusiasm diminishes a little waiting for the next thing to go wrong!!!!

Hi guys,
First post, just picked up my B7 a few weeks ago, what a car!
I have driven around 1500 miles and really enjoyed it but I too have the same problem. A clicking noise whilst moving and stationary when I steer! The car has around 20K miles.
Can anyone let me know how they got on with their probs and what the dealers said? Much appreciated!

Just a stupid question...
Is the click very quiet ?
Is it from the steering wheel itself ?
I have a thought...

Not too quiet but certainly audible. It seems to be getting louder in fact. Its not from the steering wheel either more from under the car near the front wheels.
Look forward to hearing your thoughts!

I had the same in my S4 and the dealers couldn't sort it out so I did it myself by replacing the front anti roll bar bushes, job done.
It was the first thing that I told Audi to do but they knew better and changed the steering rack, compleat suspension front and back(by compleat I mean everything from dampers, springs, arms the hole lot)they also replaced the subframe. Now what did all that cost to replace?
It cost me £20 and some beer tokens

Thanks for the info. I am a bit confused as to whether you sorted it by doing some DIY or getting the whole lot replaced by the dealer!
Anyway that sure sounds like alot of work, mind you pretty cheap though!

I had this on my RS6 and the dealer couldn't work out what was happening. am I right in thinking it happens on full lock when moving slowly or at a stand still? almost sounds like a pump that pumping air?
