Been lovin the car to date, all 300 miles of it!!! and yes, I have redlined it a couple of times.....couldn't resist....and now I'm addicted to the redline!
One thing though and it could be me

is when I'm giving it some in 1st or 2nd and then quick upshifts near the redline, it doesn't exactly go as smoothly as I would expect
doesn't happen when I upshift from 3rd or 4th.......
is it just me and my enthusiasm? or is my technique just plain <beep> at this point in time!!
My only guess is that I'm lifting off the throttle and back on again to quickly?

Same with me, I get a real jerk and drop in power between 1st and 2nd only.
I put it down to driving automatics too long
Still trying to run in, only done 650 miles, its so quick just using 6000rpm cant wait to use the last 2000 regularly.

You have not given it enough miles to settle in, I would not red - Line mine for 2000 miles, my gear change is smooth, it takes some practice to get it right (without jerking), fast changes can be done smoothly but not in 1/10th of a second, sorry that can't be done.
Run the Car in more first.
I have herd Audi are "logging" RPM on the RS4's, If this is so, and you get an engine problem, it may count against you warratee wise.

I randomly had the same problem. Had the car at the dealers the other week and they downloaded some new soft ware and the clutch take up from start off was much smoother,
gear changes, both gentle town and quick power ones, was good and smooth and the brief total loss of power when changing into second on full throttle was cleared.......BUT.... the jerky clutch changing problem seems to be slowly returning and tonight I had the brief total power loss problem return. Dry road with good grip accelerating from a junction that I use daily so it is not the traction control cutting in. Any ideas?

Havent really gunned mine yet, as im being a softy and running in a bit, so i seem to be short shifting early, say at 4-5k rpm, and it feels just plain slow at the moment.I think you cetainly have to use the rev range to get the performance.I find that the gearchange is far smoother, the higher up the revs you change, and feels a little notchy if you change below 2500rpm from 1st to 2nd.Its probably all in the learning curve.Really enjoying the car though.Regards, SIMON.

Have you guys had the latest ECU upgrade done?, I've had mine done and this just may be the diference. My gear changes are smooth whatever the range ( under 5.5K at the moment)

Me im the opposite of audijohn, i say run it hard straight out of the box. Ive run every car hard from the start and have had no issues, minimum oil consumption and high recorded compression. I think its more likely audi can recall the amount of times you hit the limiter, each time you hit it is 1 count etc so try not to hit it untill your past the 'run in period'

My car stutters between shifts in the lower gears and my 996 did it too, try turning the traction control off and you will find it no longer does it. Its probably because the traction control is too sensative. i'd bet they all do it
if driven hard enough.

Agree completely with this break-in method...spot on. Have had unbelievably good results with it over the years. Need to make sure oil is at optimal temperature and allow time for cool-down though.

I am based I preston but I am regularly around the Lancashire area, its a small world, I was offered your car by Warrington Audi from stock in March but decided to go for a factory order as I wanted SS+, rear sun blinds and homelink.
Will look out for you.
(saw a nice daytona saloon in Lytham on Friday, and I am sure it had light brown recaros, seen the colour a few times on TT roadsters

)
It had gone by the time I parked up.

Light brown recaros

................hmmmm..........each to their own ...
Out of curiosity, did you get much discount on the factory order? If you don't mind me asking

(pm if you prefer) Warrington gave me a fabulous discount on the stock one IMHO.......

It is definately the ESP kicking in very slightly, turn it off and this will not happen. If im taking someone out for a spin in my car I put S button on and take ESP off!!
Run mine in very hard and on the rolling road it produced the highest standard power out of a dozen the a tuner out on the rollers!!!! (this topic is a very individual thing - not critising anyone for their opinion by the way)!!

Well my RS4 is run in, and I've still got the jerk in 1,2,3 gear. 4,5,6 are fine. Dealer check the car over and they said it was fine, but I don't remember this problem with the RS4 loan car I had for a month.

Lee, I have not got this problem on mine, I am still running in 730 Miles, but not crawling along, gear change (IMHO) perfection needs the seat in the right place to operate the clutch and throttle smoothly, the clutch pedal is a little high, so seat poss important(to me anyway).
I have juggled the seat around a lot and now found a good poss for gear changing smooth.

But it's fine in higher gears.
