Think you may find your insurance company demand it. Most do on vehicles of this value.

I haven't gone with a tracker. My insurer (NU) not bothered whether I had one or not.

I looked at the various tracker options and just wasn't sure it was worth it. But I think I was also swayed by the (arguably contentious) view that says 'If someone nicks your car, do you really want it back - particularly given the state it may be in?'. Of course this is where GAP Insurance may be important but I haven't quite made up my mind on that front.

I'd be interested in what GAP you're going with and how much it is.

Lifetime Tracker Horizon everytime. On this car your looking at less than 2% of it's value, it's a no brainer.
Would i want the car back, yep. Engine has a rev limiter does'nt it (which im on most of the time anyway), and the things under warranty aswell.
If it does'nt come back your screwed on the insurance for years and if you have multiple insurance policies they all get effected even with protected no claim discount.
Gap insurance is another money spinner for Audi, why do you think they push it soo much.
But that's just my opinion.

maybe you're right, I don't know. When I was looking at trackers before I couldn't help thinking something like the Clifford Blackjax would be a better bet if I were to do anything but I realise these fall down if someone takes your motor by lifting it straight onto a low loader. What would be helpful is be some stats about how effective any of these things are at actually getting vehicles retrieved - no doubt the stats are out there but I haven't seen them.

I agree absolutely on the GAP moneyspinner for Audi but strangely, neither they nor my finance Co. have even mentioned it this time around - obviously a salesman or two not doing their job. I don't know what Audi would charge for it but people like click4gap as per audijohn's post seem to have some pretty reasonable rates.

If car is a stolen recovered , you'll get screwed come resale time, would rather have GAP and NO tracker and not get the car back hopefully then go shopping fer a new one with the help of GAP forking out the difference to the insurance......

Just looked out my NU policy and within first twelve months of purchase they would replace the vehicle with a new one (subject to availability of course) if stolen not recovered etc... so no need for gap this year!

I had actually heard that a number of insurers do this but forgot to check until tonight.

That should be standard on all insurance policies, has been the same with every insurer I've used in the last 14 years.
Present:...
Lotus Evora GT410 Sport, Caterham 420R, CCM Spitfire, VW T2 Bay Window 1976

Past:
DB11 AMR, 992, 991.2, Yamaha MT01, 640d Gran Coupe, 635d Coupe, RS6 C5, Audi TT 225 Coupe, Astra with wind up windows, Citroen ZX, Rover 213, yes behold, a Rover 213... Renault 5

And probably on mine for the last thirty then but I can't say I've ever read much beyond the cover note - not much of a one for detail I guess.

It does beg the question though as to why anyone would buy gaop in the first year, doesn't it?

Audijohn, i had read the post but thanks for disinterring. :D
It's all about personal choice and circumstance.
For me i have 4 policies so the NCD and no claim is important. The odd's of my car being stolen are very slim so the gap insurance is a no no, and as hanbury says your insurance covers new for old in the first year.
