Morning

Post by feelou » Thu May 10, 2007 11:40 am

Strange noise from under the car when opening the driver's door in the morning. Like a metal tube sliding back into another metal tube ( so much for a great description).

Doesn't happen when unlocking the car, nor when opening the boot. Only when a front door is opened.

What is it?

PS: apologies if this is a no-brainer described a squillion times on the forum, just haven't found anything on it

Blimey...an RS4 with door-hinge arthritis

Seriously though...I have no idea what it is...although I suspect a knowledgable owner will be along with an answer any minute.

Some VAG cars prime the fuel lift pump when the front doors are opened...... could that be it?
Mark.

Sounds like it to me. Mine does it, and so did my little Lupo GTi.

Yes mine does that and so does the wife's Golf. Only on the driver's door though.
It is the fuel pump priming itself - a bit like the car cocking it's trigger and getting ready to go ;)

Priming makes sense. And a bit of a relief I must say.
Thanks everyone
