About to buy an RS4 Avant

Post by daviesd » Mon Apr 23, 2007 12:29 pm

Hi guys

Been looking through the board for several weeks now and seems to have a really good cummunity on here so I thought I'd ask for some advice / reality check.

I sold my lovely BM yesterday which puts me in the market for a new car.....

I have my eye on an RS4 avant up at our local dealer and was wondering if you thought this a good deal or not.

RS4 Avant 2007 - unregistered 98 miles on the clock
Mugello Blue
Multifunction steering wheel ( ie non flat bottomed )
Electric Recaro seats ( non full bucket )
Heated seats front and rear
Technology Pack
Adaptive lights
Privacy Glass
19" rims
Floor mats and some extending boot liner thing

Cost £44K bear in mind I live in Jersey so don't have to pay VAT although we have some registration duty which is about 3K

What do you guys think - good deal or not.

cheers

David

Sounds pretty good to me both spec wise and price wise, even with VAT that would be under £52k...

But the steering wheel and seats would make it less desirable come resale time.
Cheers,

Got to say that i think the flat-bottomed steering wheel is absolutely fantastic and the bucket seats make you feel like you're in a sports car.
Knowing what i know now, i wouldn't buy the car without the above two items.
Sorry if that makes it more difficult for you

Thanks for the replies - it is making it more difficult.

Went to have another look at the car tonight and also sat in a Sprint Blue one with the flat bottomed wheel and the bucket seats.

Can you still control the audio / sat nav with that wheel, I couldn't get it to do very much although I didn't play for too long.

Fired the engine - they sound amazing. The whole car seems to move slightly at tick-over.

Going for a final test drive on Saturday and then its decision time

I thought long and hard when ordering mine if I should go for the RS wheel or not… as I spend a fair bit of time on the phone I wanted to be able to ‘dial from the wheel’ so to speak, so in the end I went for the Multi-function one and haven’t looked back.

Bucket seats are a must however IMHO.

Tickover seems rough immediately after ignition on a cold engine, but settles down to be as smooth as after a minute… I’ve personally not experienced any car movement until you hit the pedal that is...

Rich.

tickover does initially vibrate the car and it is one of the little features I love about the RS4, that and the noise it makes when you turn the ignition off, like the Millenium Falcon powering down!

I miss the multifunction steering, as my old M3 had, especially for tel / cd control, but convinced myself an RS4 needs to have the RS4 wheel. It looks great, but I made a mistake, I spend too much time leaning forward to use phone / audio. Forget the resale side of it, anyone with a 50k + motor, can afford to loose a bit extra in depreciation by not having the RS wheel. You need to make the car as user friendly and enjoyable for yourself when driving, and if you use the tel alot, go for the multifunction.
