There's alot of peripheral information out there about this but nothing simple, easy and idiotproof. This is how I did it:
1) buy a multimedia card reader/writer eg http://www.card-media.co.uk/MultiMedia+ ... eaders.htm and 1 or 2 SD cards (4GB probably the best as they are large capacity but not too expensive)
2) download ImTOO audio encoder http://www.imtoo.com/audio-encoder.html for £12.50
3) having plugged in the SD card reader/writer create a folder in the SD card drive called the name of the album you're going to convert
3) open ImTOO application, you're going to convert by album, so after clicking on "Add" in ImTOO, go to the folder on your pc where your iTunes music is held and highlight the songs from the relevant album
4) still in Imtoo go to the drop down menu by "Encoder" and select MP3, then go to the drop down menu by "Output Folder" and select the folder in the SD card drive that you created in step 3
5) in ImToo click "Encode"
6) sit back and wait, then repeat for next album
7) to see all the albums on the RNS-E press "Return" after you go to the MP3 menu
The downside is that it takes a while for the conversion to take place.

RE: How to get iTunes to work on your RNS-E
iinteresting thanks for that - but for a thicky, how is this different from dragging folders from itunes library as MP3's straight onto your card?
PS if anyone can explain in Fisher Price terms what the Root folder is, I'd be grateful. I seem to have all my songs (all listed alphebetically not in albums) working fine, but at the top of the list are a random selection of duplicates that don't play and have funny prefixes in front of them. any suggestions?

RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.
Back with C6 RS6
And again C7 RS6

Errr, maybe I am missing your point?.. I simply just change the Itunes encoder standard to MP3 off ASF. From that point onward all your Itunes managed files will be encoded as MP3. Then drag and frop them on the SD card. Zero cost...
