RS4 / M5

Post by EuroSag » Sun Dec 17, 2006 6:39 pm

I realise that this is not going to get an unbiased response, but would an RS4 B7 be able to keep up with or even whip an M5 (current V10 model)?

Simple answer is no. simple mathematics...

500bhp & rwd vs. 420bhp & quattro - great from about 0-40 after that the M5 will just leave it for dead I am sad to say.

a V10 M5 is very fast....faster than a 550bhp RS4 B5.

Proven in various youtube movies.

Nuff said i think?
An opinion is like an asshole, everybody has got one.

I say yes based on head to head articles such as this German one which puts the RS4 against other cars in different conditions and different tracks including the Nurgurbring.

Sorry about the bad resolution. I can email a higher resolution copy to anyone that PMs me their email. My point is the times on different tracks.

Rundenzeit = run or I believe lap around named track (Nordshleiife or Hockenheim), Nasshandling = on the wet, ausweichtest comes up in my dictionary as evasion. konkurrenz umfeld is close competitors best I can make out. Anyone please feel free to confirm or correct me.

I've driven an M6 and currently own a B7 RS 4 and the difference in speed is quite noticeable, especially from 60+!

The M6 is a powerhouse and it's a handful in the wet with it's huge amount of power to the rear.

In a straigh line there's no comparison, but around a twistie like the ring then it would be very close.

I have just chucked my M5 in for an Rs4....yes the M5 is a lot faster however in the wet it is a liability. The M5 is more like a very fast comfortable saloon...no feeling from the road whereas the RS4 feels like a track car...

I still have my suspiscions about some of those original vids - especially the M6 vs. the tuned 996tt!

I'd say a genuine 550bhp RS4 would be a match, even with drivetrain losses, just look at the power to weight ratio - those new M5's are damn heavy!

u can't really compare the rs4 with the m5 as the same range would be an a6 or rs6....teh new rs6 is a 5.0 litre twin turbo now that sounds more appealing....
