I’m looking for a good quality outdoor car cover for my Avant, something that won’t cause any paintwork issues long term.

What would you recommend?

Hi Maars,
The trouble with car covers is that the damage to the paintwork is almost unavoidable. This is because it is caused by the particules of dirt, dust and grime that's already on your paintwork. The action of putting the cover on and taking it off drags said dirt particules over the paintwork leaving scratches and damage behind. You can buy super expensive covers that promise you it's made of the softest material in the world but if your car is anything less that perfectly clean you will damage your clear coat. Of course this is reversible just like washing your car with less care than some, or taking it to the local car wash. A decent paint correction polish session restores things but does take a little more clear coat every time. Audis are generally thick but at this age it's worth keeping correction to a minimum if avoidable. I guess it depends how serious you are about your paintwork. The only alternative to a garage for me is the tent style covers you can buy. Thats what I would spend my money on. If you can anchor it down properly so it can withstand heavy winds it will provide even more protection than a cover and your paintwork will remain as it is. Of course if you are parking on the street thats not an option, but I hope that helps. I am 2 stage polishing and putting a 5 year ceramic coating on. Then it's going in the garage!

I bought a stormshield + outdoor cover from specialisedcovers.com back in April with no complaints. A bit pricey but fits perfect and had no issues with scratches. My car used to be in the garage until the wife started running her business from there, so the car was outside getting dust, bird crap and green mould around the window rubber. I did get a stage 2 polish and ceramic coating done before using the cover. I looked at the Carcoon thing but seems too much hassle and bloody awful looking.

I bought a hail cover one. Very thick..
Haven't had to use it yet, and only problem is that is it so bulky it's almost impossible to fold!
