Air Con Advice

Post by WRS4 » Fri Apr 17, 2020 6:44 pm

Now its a bit warmer ive noticed my fan is not as cool as it was when I purchased the car, even now im still learning things about the car even after 2 years lol.

Anyway I have only just found out that Air con is on only when the econ button is NOT lit up, I cant actually get this light to go off, from what I gather this can be a few issues but the more common one is that it needs a re charge / refrigeration added.

Is this something I can do myself ? and if so what do I need to buy / tools ?

Specialist job, you obviously have an issue with it. Kwick fit do it cheap so I believe. I have all the kit to do it in my work van.

Looks like the issue happened to you last year, going by your posts about the steam coming from the vents.

Usual reason for econ button not going off is either low refrigerant Or possible issue with pressure switch. If you have access to VCDS or similar that would help

If you have a leak in the system it can draw in air, this can trigger the pressure switch as the system is overpressuried. Which could be why the econ light stays on.

My one had a tiny leak under a metal bracket, only found by injecting a uv dye into the system.

Either leave a working system on all year round or don't bother fixing it.

Its a pressurised system, if you have a leak you won't draw in air and over pressurise it. If you have a leak, you'll lose all pressure.
