DRC Broke... Steve at CRS sorted me out!

Hi all,

I’ve had my RS4 Avant for about 4 years and know the car pretty well. I’ve done most jobs myself including carbon clean but when my DRC recently crapped its pants I rang Steve at CRS as I’d seen his Koni kits advertised on EBay.

In short I can not recommend this outfit highly enough. The car feels great with new shocks and springs and is as good as original DRC in my opinion but without the heart ache of always wondering ‘when’s it going to fail’ like you have with DRC.

Steve dropped all his other jobs to squeeze me in and his pricing is great. He’s a top notch mechanic with a great solution to our suspension issues, you’d be barking mad to not give him a ring if you are thinking about removing DRC.

I can second that I love the ride and handling of mines on his set up!

I've got them too and fitted them myself along with h&r springs .They are a very good alternative to coilovers which I find personally too hard .

This is an awesome alternative to coilovers. Did you retain the original springs or go with H&R?

That's not bad at all.

I went for B14s and whilst it looks great it is a bit harder than standard DRC - from memory it's similar to SS+ but it's at least 10 years since I compared normal and SS+ back to back.

We are in Cannock, West midlands WS11 0ET post code easily accessible from M6 and M6 toll . Bilstein use hi pressure MONO tube dampers in the B 14 kit this is why the ride is harsh due to Gas pressure , KONI use a dual tube style damper with a 3 valve system to get great performance and comfortable ride .

The KONI dampers which we sell are tweaked for the RS4 and this is what gives us such good results ,
Jesterful 's car had failed badly on the rear OS shock and because the shocks are interlinked the entire system stops functioning correctly . He insisted on helping to do the work which was a great help and we picked up a few unsuspected issues that we sorted out while we were busy . A good days work and a great result . Thank you

I put new H&R springs in. You’d be crazy not to for 220 quid. After a few days of driving it really feels like a new car. The biggest bit is just knowing it’s not a ticking time bomb like the DRC is. I plan on keeping the car forever so this gives me a great setup at a great price without the hassle.

Steve is exceptional, again I can’t recommend him highly enough.

How long does the job take? It's a decision I'll need to make at some point in the next year or two - had the car for 13 years and 90k miles without issue, but I know the DRC pipework is starting to corrode. A cheaper solution that retains ride and handling characteristics would make a lot of sense.

Probably took us about 6 hours to do the whole car but we were working at a fairly leisurely pace and we ran into a couple of snags. With a bit of haste and no extra issues I reckon 4 hours from start to finish is realistic with the right tools and know how.

Right, and you are only about an hour from me, so this might well be the best option. Thanks for the replies, I've bookmarked this tread and saved your website.

I see Gary A described his car thus:

'I now have Shockerboy's KONI setup with H&R springs and love them. Also installed full Meyle HD front suspension arm kit, bump stops and top mounts. Probably about £1,000 all in.
Ride is much firmer then 'MY' DRC was but its not harsh.'

Is there a part of this setup that makes it 'much firmer', as others have said the setup you've given them retains ride and handling characteristics?

Do I also take it that once DRC is removed and replaced, it would be very difficult to reinstall it?

I am leaning in your direction right now, but need to be as sure as I can be - so thanks in advance!
