HI all.

Sorry if i've put this in the wrong place! I'm a definite newcomer.

I have a boring BMW320d and now convinced myself an affordable RS4 saloon (with approx 85-100k miles) is the way to go (budget of 12-15k). Beautiful car and a classic in the making. The REAL question is.. where the hell can I find one. Auto Trader has a handful from £12k-15k but none that have really been looked after. Piston heads the same.

Any suggestions..? or seen any?

the age-old question that goes along with it... what should I look out for.. Carbon build up and Air suspension are the common fears I've seen on there so far.

thanks!

There's a good buyers guide in the sticky section at the top of the forum.

Be prepared for maintenance cost and not just purchase price. These cars are reliable if treated well but they do have parts from Lamborghinis and Audi R8s in them (like the brakes), and those parts have Lamborghini/R8 replacement costs.

Thanks..! i've read a few buyers guides so far, will check out this one too. understood the ongoing costs are not going to be cheap.. don't buy a car like this an expect to pay small money for brakes, tyres etc.

The brakes are steep, but they are not in the Lamborghini league. And servicing is a bargain compared with a chap I knew who ran a (less powerful) Aston Vantage at the same time. Dealership hourly rates have increased in a piss-taking manner over the last few years, though. In 12 years, I've spent about £5k on non-consumable items, and at least with the brakes they don't suggest you need to change them after 14k miles - which they did to me. Not like I'm last of the late brakers...

An MRC remap is a good thing to look for!

I’m not sure how easy it is for you folks to import items from the US but a lot of the maintenance items like injectors, brakes etc can be a lot cheaper...

In our own RS4 owners chat group here in the US, I don’t know anyone who has bought an 80-100k mile car and not had to put 5-6k USD during the first month of ownership, if your mechanically inclined you can save some money...

Good Luck with your search

Welcome to the club! You won't regret owning the B7 RS4.
I would say have a look out on eurocarparts from time to time because the seasonal deals could save you a fair bit of money. Eg. brakes.
