I’ve heard that a Carbon clean can make significant improvements to responsiveness/power. Having owned my RS4 for 5 years is it worth doing, especially as there’s no record of it ever being done? AmD are based in Essex and are not far from me; has anyone used them and/or can recommend their ‘de-coke’?

In my opinion it’s only worth doing if you are going to do it every year. If it’s just going to be a one off I don’t see the point unless you are down on power significantly. Maybe worth a dyno run first.

I think it's worth doing, especially if it's never been done. If you car isn't used too heavily, I'm not sure it necessarily needs doing every year. Mine was done in 2016 and if there's been any deterioration it hasn't been noticeable. But I only do 5k p.a., avoid short journeys, use V-Power etc - these things help, I think.

I’m tempted to go through the carbon clean process but would prefer to use a ‘reputable’ company. AmD seem to say on their website £60 for Carbon clean which just doesn’t sound right/thorough?!

Having checked their website, this looks like a snake oil carbon clean and not a manifold off jobby.

If Im to get this done it’ll have to a proper job. Are there companies (preferably Essex-based) that can be recommended?

I see your problem, I did a Google search, "Engine Carbon Clean Essex". It only comes back with the 20 minute snake oil Carbon clean boys. It may be worth a trip up to MRC.

4 Rings in Dartford do carbon cleans I think. Worth a call.
