Sticky? Cheap parts OEM or aftermarket for B7 RS4

Post by dogtanion » Fri Jan 26, 2018 12:48 pm

Hi

Does anyone know of a thread, or can we start one where we list parts that we have tried which are cheaper than the very expensive RS audi parts and work well, OEM or after market. I am stunned every time I have to change brake discs which seem to warp.

e.g,
I replaced the throttle body last year with an ACDelco 217-1617 ordered new off ebay for about 25% of the cost of the exact same Audi part.

Thanks

Bad idea.
For 2 reasons.
1) say you buy a cheap part of Ebay, fit it, you are happy! You post it here after few weeks that it works! Woohoo!!! Everyone decides to buy same part. And than it brakes after few months! Because we all know how aftermarket parts are superior quality!!! So I would be very hesitant to recommend knock off parts on here..
2) this brings an unnecessary cheap value to our cars! I am all up for cheap parts! But! Want it cheap? Buy second hand. RS don’t deserve cheap Ebay <beep>!!!

On the fence....there is genuine parts for sale on ebay if you know what you're looking for. Same part no's and manufacturer just no audi circles stamped on them that creates an extra 100% mark-up on price

I went in for rear discs. but found the fronts have warped again as well. The mechanic said he's embarrassed by RS prices because the same parts for an S4 are about half the price. Not interested in 'knock off' ebay parts, but am interested in genuine alternative branded after market parts that owners have tried or where owners have found Audi buy the oem part from somewhere and it's half the price!

Regarding front discs, I've just bought Brembo replacements from Eurocarparts with a flash sale code on brake parts - £465 for the pair inc free delivery. Cheapest genuine Audi ones I could find were £600. The same flash sale comes up on a regular basis, so worth holding out for it if you can.

Great idea.

I think people need to understand there is a difference between chinese knock-off tat and genuine, OEM or even branded parts that are the same or possibly even better available for less money. Ironic that these same snobs who want to keep "brand value" up are also happy to buy after market parts for their cars that are not OEM and certainly not developed with the kind of funds Audi have at their disposal.

I'll give you a real world example I have personal experience of - the crank trigger ring for any TDV6 Land Rover or Range Rover is £120 or so, but its actually a Peugeot engine and the identical part, not in a Land Rover box from Citroen main dealer is £22 !!!!! Once out the box its indistinguishable as its the same part lol

So yes, I think a thread with info is a great idea, and certainly more information is better than less and people can make their own minds up where they want to draw the line on OEM vs Cost

I like this and like a bargain, be it OEM or not so I will give my input.

Intake pipe cheaper than Forge.
