Attempted seat theft?
Hi all,
I've been a long time browser on the forum and recently bought my first B7 RS4 Avant from fellow forum member Kenny in Glasgow. I've had the car for a few months now and loving it!
Sadly this morning I came out to a smashed passenger window which at first I thought was just vandalism. On getting into the car I noticed they had started to rip the internal light unit from the roof liner. I understand this is how thieves are disabling the alarm to then freely work at getting the seats out. I feel lucky that someone must have interrupted them or driven past!
Assuming they were trying to get at the seats, I am worried they now know where the car is... I will park off street at a friends house for now but as a more permanent solution, I am thinking of having the alarm upgraded. Have any of you guys done this and if so who would you recommend. It looks like the viper system from Securemycar is a good job from initial investigations.
Any help much appreciated.
Kind regards
Rob

Get a page alarm fitted will page you when someone is attempting any entry on your car up to a mile radius and shows a LCD diagram of where attempting entry is happening and whether glass has been broke it's all American stuff plenty of decent alarm places will supply and fit
Re: Attempted seat theft?
Sorry to here this. Securemycar do a system to help prevent this. The shock sensor would have activated when they popped the window and the alarm is so loud they would have run off straight away. The issue is the standard car doesn't have a shock sensor, nor is the alarm loud enough. Viper is who they fit but Clifford do the same sort of thing.

Re: Attempted seat theft?
Ive just spoken to securemycar - they now sell a system called Pandora which has the same features but is apparently much more secure. Not cheap but better than having to write off the car because of stolen seats.
Such a shame to have to take these sort of steps!

Re: Attempted seat theft?
The 'silver' package is £680 which seems a lot to me but I need to make sure the car is properly sorted now. Need to do some proper research to find the right system. They were saying that apparently the viper system has been broken into in the US and they decided to move to the pandora as its more secure...
Re: Attempted seat theft?
That's a lot of dollar right there in fact that's way over the top for that system not sure where you are try these caraudiosecurity.com they in Hayes and they can also advise you they been in the game for a long long time there's no one in the U.K. Bigger than them
Re: Attempted seat theft?
I do t think £680 for a full system is too much. Each to their own though.

The systems are only £70 for a decent one so rest is labour £600 odd quid for half a days work

Scumbags. Oxford Audi apparently had the buckets stolen from an RS5 Cab they were preparing to list.

Re: Attempted seat theft?
Scumbags and one of the main reasons i sold mine. The more secure it is then the likely hood of them getting in your house for the keys rises, but you don't want to make it easy for them either. I had a viper alarm on mine and it went off if you got within a foot of the car so that helps a lot with scaring them off, motion detecting security light, cctv and locking it away in the garage would help, good luck.
Re: Attempted seat theft?
I did the following to protect my seats -
1 - Upgraded to Clifford alarm - it isn't the most sophisticated out there but it has its own interior sensors, blue dash LED and loud siren. I chose that one as it meant I kept the standard remote key to arm/disarm the alarm.
2 - Used Green Loctite on the bolts (just those that I could easily get to in case I needed to heat them up to remove the seats
3 - Filled the recesses in the bolts with Sikkafix
I know people say the seats may get vandalised in protest but I do know they won't be coming out of the car easily.
To the OP, yes I would say that was an attempted seat theft not vandals.

Re: Attempted seat theft?
These seats are being stolen due to 2 flaws with the oem alarm; it is almost silent and easily disabled.
An aftermarket alarm with proximity sensor that will beep at them when they peep in the windows will be a good detterent because it is much louder than the near silent oem alarm and they know it is not disabled as easily as the oem one from the courtesy light.
I would also fit some security film to the insides of the windows, as this should stop them even being able to get into the car to steal the seats and stop a lot of the damage that happens from breaking in and stealing ie the door cards damaged, seats ripped etc.
