Aftermarket radio/cd headunits - What's good?

Post by MrHilario » Tue Jul 04, 2017 10:29 am

Morning all, so ahead of the Wales trip I thought I would update my Garmin Sat-Nav as it came up on my aftermarket Kenwood headunit that it was due. However, after checking the website it seems there is no update available?

Anyway, I don't care much for the Kenwood unit, it's hard to see in bright light, and fiddly as f*ck. It came with the car and I am thinking of swapping it out for something else.

What have you got and is it any good?

Cheers :thumb:

I fit the Kenwood DNX-7170DABS - 7.0”. It's got every feature you could ask for - apple car play, sat nav, dvd and the tuning capabilities are next level, not need for a dap. It might be overkill for you needs if you still have the original Bose system in the car but it's defiantly worth a look if you want something decent. It also looks great in the car with their mounting kit.

Hmmmm, looks very similar to mine, what's it like in bright light? You literally cannot see mine, the reflection is so bad. And yes I have the original Bose.

I've got the DNX9240BT, guess it's just getting a bit old now. Actually just googled it and it was £1300 brand new!!!! Can't be that bad, maybe I just need to get it updated or actually learn how to use it properly. I've only had it 18 months

EDIT - Found a YouTube vid, this is my exact unit, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCijEiVBUdg and I can play TV and stuff, I just can't see the bloody thing! I mean, look at the reflection around the 4min mark, and imagine how it looks on a bright sunny day.

I reckon that yours is probably just the previous version of what I've got. Stupid question but you have adjusted the the brightness right?

It seems fine on a bright sunny day but really how many of those do we get?

I had one of the 8" alpine head units in mine. There is an A4 adapter to make it a perfect fit in the dash that looks like factory finish. Fills up the space left by the RNS-E nicely.

Knowing me it's probably on the lowest setting, lol. Will have a play around with it later, taking it to get the wheels aligned again as last done 18 months ago.

whats the best fitting kit to go for with these? I have seen a couple by connects2, plug and play so provides an ignition supply and outputs for the Bose amp etc. Anyone have any experience with these?
